As usual, without consultation with other players, the ones who matter that is, He/THEY have taken upon themselves ala Cuban style, to spring this upon the people. Businesses are beginning to suffer, I know of some that have closed down, the people are very unhappy and afraid of layoffs.
Who have ever heard of a 15% pay raise - but rather, a shocking 15% additional Tax. Who can bear this, certainly not the poor and the marginal.
So the voice of the poor was heard to say, "what did we do to deserve this, and what caused all this and what brought this on?"
Then a still soft voice in the neutral corner whispered, "GREED, SELFISHNESS, POWER HUNGRY". A couldn't care less attitude, we're all right Jack. The sad part about it is, all is to blame, Both UWP and SLP. Excessive and unnecessary borrowing and spending - like there's no tomorrow. An attitude born of political clowns voted in by a college of ignoramuses, country bookies, card carrying, banner lifting, red and orange colour coded idiots, and now these same jackasses are screaming HELP!!!

Some of you all should have NOTHING to say now, because SLP was in office they were developing the country by LEAPS and BONDS go all over St Lucia the evidence is there.Even Babados was seeing St Lucia was doing better than then.Yes they borrowed but we all could see what was done with the money. Yes they made mistakes as EVERY human government does. We allowed a selfish, bias to confuse us, so we changed the government for a retired 82 yr old man and a bunch of semi literates bandits. As expected the 82 yr old died, leaving the semi literates to run a mock in the country, every week there was a new scandal. They borrowed hundred of millions with nothing to show what was done with the money. Every bit of footpaths, drains and concrete road built was done with Tiawanese money. They brought back the country to square one. Now some people want the present government in less than 2 yrs to create magic, when the whole world is going through rought economic times. We have to blame ourselves for putting UWP in office. What makes the matter more laughabe is, these SAME fellows are trying hard to return to office, after achieving nothing in 5 yrs.

Selfish and bias media to confuse us

I would like Alexander to let us know how should we deal with the deficit. If he wants revenue to be cut, them give us an idea of the areas of expenditures we need to cut. Should we go to the IMF for the bitter pills?

The trouble is that, like his predecessor, he appears not to be able to see the forest for the trees.

He does not appear to understand the first darn thing about how a government is financed. Or, he does not give a hoot, as long as he can continue his inefficient ways and make money from fleecing the public and consumers.

Tell us what cost efficiencies have you implemented in the last five years? Any?

Start talking and try to make some sense, while your are at it, because all of us are not as dumb about running either a government or a business as you think.

All the nonsense and trash talking are from flambeaus living in denial.
I support blogger #4 for a piece well said. Millions were borrowed from UWP government, What do they have to show for.
After the storm of Debbie, How much millions was given to St Lucia, What did they do with it and what is there to show for it.
After the fire at St Jude hospital, How much millions was given to rebuild it,Where did the money go to and what state is the building in still/
How much Taiwanese moneys that was given to each UWP ministers for their constituency, Where did the moneys go to, Who were the beneficiary of these moneys, Are there any proof to show it.
Now Imagine If Millions borrowed, Millions after the storm, Millions after the fire, Millions from Taiwanese fund to each constituency was used correctly, Do you think St lucians as well as this government wouldn't be in a better position.
Would the government have had to impose a 15 percent vat to keep the government working.
The same political leader who claim on facebook that he is an economist, whereas as Former minister of tourism was spending money with no accountability to his boss Stevenson king nor his cabinet colleage.
Now you tell me lucians with good commonsense Shouldn't we hold these UWP responsible for the mess Fair Helen found herself.
Stop blaming and accept responsibility for us voting a 82 year old in office with a bunch of little boys who couldn't do a grown man job, So we got what we deserve.

The UWP with a 82 year old man was a disaster. Fredericks a thief. King a fat useless person. The only thing I can see is more public servants driving Audis and
BMWs. Many people cannot pay their bills for Wasco and Lucelec. Kenny Anthony received a mess when he took office.

If the economy was a mess, why did Kenny promise better days? why did he promise to pump one hundred million dollars into the economy immediately upon taking office? Why did he make so many promises he knew he could not keep?
Is it because he was not aware of the global finincial meltdown? If he was not aware thensomething is seriously wrong with this man(of course many people know that).
If he was aware then he lied to the people of st.lucia(he has done so many, many, many times).
What kind of man offers so many lies just so he can get elected?
Do any of you remember how he called Sarah Flood a liar when she said that he had begged the criminals to give the people a chance to enjoy Christmas. He demanded an apology. She refused(because she was not the liar.He was)and she was put out of the house of assembly. After kenny lost the 2006 elections the tape was played on HTS.When he was asked to respond and offer an apology to Sarah flood he said he had not seen the tape .He would ask HTS for a copy and then make a statement.
Up to now no comment.WHAT A LIAR.
BY the way which government imposed the 15% vat on the people?(please do not repeat the stupid reason offered by Kenny that king would have imposed it)
Which government almost wiped out the school transportation subdidy for your children.
It seems that Kenny told the people the things he did not intend to do andhe is doing the things he did not say he would have done .
Of course, what else would you expect from the son of a slave master.

Those persons who are enraged by the suggestion of a reduction in the vat rate, please tell me how rich they are?
Like most St.Lucians I am sure they are struggling.
I would to ask them whether life wasn't easier before the 2006 elections for the majority of St.lucians?(before vat)
Before the last elections there was no vat,the UWP government paid the transportation so that your children could go to a school where their potential could be maximized, there was no increase in water rates, there was no reduction in subsidies for sugar, rice, and flour. There was no plan to increase bus fares.(it is coming). The cost of kerosine was less.LPG did cost less.Gasoline and diesel cost less.
With the advent of the SLP all of the above has changed with negative consequences for the economic and social well being of St.lucians.
Now,hasn't those negative consequences(brought about by SLP policies)affected those persons who are angry because someone called for a reduction in the VAT RATE?Wouldn't they also benefit if all the negative things imposed by Kenny Anthony were reversed?
Apart from the government ministers, the consultants, the diplomats, the contractors(chosen few)jobs for a chosen few in the public service.how many more can actually say that their finincial situation has improved since?
ON the other hand the majority of St.lucians have become poorer since the implimentation of the SLP government policies.Someone, plesae tell me I am wrong.
Kenny Anthony did not have to implement such bad policies. Please remember that while his policies create great hardship for the people who voted for him He and his key supporters are earning very good salaries thanks to those same people who he is presently crusifying.
THe question is WHY?Is that the way to thank people who voted for you so that the economic and financial situation of you and your ministers can get better?SHAME ON YOU.

Half of the problem is still the unwillingness and downright refusal of the private sector to embrace change. For example, had the private sector business units been more IT savvy, the transition would have been easier. VAT needs an environment of IT capacity and capability. And those implementing the change on the government's side did such a botched job.

Anonymous said...

blogger,
could you please tell us what the other half of the problem is.
Anyway,IT capability or not,15% vat is still 15% IT savvy or not.

Blogger@ 1:56 PM,
You described some people as semi-literates.Actually,based on what you wrote, that description fits you perfectly.
The information you gave regarding Barbados,If you read that somewhere, surely you did not understand what you read.If someone told you this, then the intelligent thing you should have done was to verify it before repeating it,thereby avoiding the label semi-illerate and stupid.
By the way,Kenny did promise MAGIC.How else could he have fullfilled his promises if not by magic. The sad thing is that many people including yourself believed the liar.
Little did you know that the magic would only help him and a chosen few.
The title for a book coming out soon is BETTER DAYS:AN ILLUSION ;How KENNY ANTHONY FOOLED SO MANY ST>LUCIANS
It will showcase the work of an evil magician.
Please buy a copy.Don't rely only on what you are told.Verify, and then repeat if neccessary.

How many ministers who came in with such grace to help the country, Lets face it I am very sure that the SLP did not know what they was going to inherit. when it was said that they made those promises, We have to take many things into consideration, and lets stop living in denial, and don't run away from the truth, in that Millions was borrowed and theirs nothing to show, millions was given after the storm, nothing to show, Millions for St Jude, The building is still there. Nothing to show.
How much millions given to each UWP ministers for their constituency, Who benefitted from it.
Now again if all these millions were put to good used by the former government. How much further would St Lucia have been. Maybe they would still be the government, Maybe this government would have life easy for everyone.
Just think for a moment That this government now has to pay back the millions that was borrowed, Plus a workforce to pay, Where are they going to get the money from.
You Flambeaus let Wisdom be your guide When it was in you all favour you all said nothing and see all kind of bandits take advantage over the poor people as well as fair Helen, Now you all know what should be done and what shouldn't. Shame, Shame, Shame, We all are responsible for our poor choice.

The sad thing is that the VAT was introduced and implemented -- not as a change in the way the economy was taxed in a macro-economic way, but as a name for just another but additional tax.

The hotel sector got a VAT. Now, the employers' confederations, in the main, the distribution sector is seeking its own VAT.

Our so-called experts and consultants created a virtual platypus: a hodge-podge, something with everything.

It would seem that they learned nothing from the Jamaican experience. The left perhaps the best seamless implementation model in the Caribbean, Barbados, on the cutting floor.

Of experts they say, an expert is: "one who knows more about less and less, until he knows everything about nothing"

All politics and intelligence scoring here . Take is from a vat expert and a chartered accountant who runs his own uk practice, I have not read one comment here from any one who understands business. Very very tragic indeed.

Vat rate for such an under developed economy should be less than 10% and exempt it zero rate such items as school books food and other essentials like do serif fuel and electricity.

What has happened is what lazy governments do of both parties.

St. Lucia cannot survive on its own the orcs should become a federated state . That is the reality.

An accountant is a bean counter. Do such people really understand economics or even business?

I wish the media as well as journalist will take the time and talk and write what is truth and do not take sides because it is their interest, but the lucians interest,Our future, and children's future. Our people will be educated to make wise choice, not just for party but what is in the best interest for St Lucia.

That's why our government has to find other avenues to help our economy, How many industries do we have, we had a banana industry what happen.
Now if our present government with the Alba agreement are finding ways to enhance our island, Why should Chastenet tried to go to the US and talk bad about st lucia, plus causing fear at the bank of St Lucia. you tell me

Bullshit!!! The public must now subsidise the predatory merchant community after subsidising the hotels? The public with static salary increases must pay 15 percent and others 10 and 8 percent? What's it with the shit you talking now?
