    I guess we ran out of names and just used one name for every district. Just like we forget our fallen heroes and began naming our sporting stadium stands; North, South, East and West, just a lack of Patriotism altogether.

    We are coming to vacation in St Lucia from Indialantic, Florida in April, so I have been checking the internet for interesting information. When checking locations on the google maps, many locations seemed to be in the wrong place. Thanks to your column, I now know why. I will drink some of that cane drink when I arrive, and then maybe it will not matter if I am in the wrong town.

    You neglected to mention some "exotic" place names and their English translations:
    Balenbouch - "ball in mouth"
    Vigie - "look out!!"
    Vide Bouteille - "empty bottle"
    Mon Repos - "my retreat" or "my place of rest"
    Fond d'Or - "valley of gold"
    La Croix Maingot - "God's big hand" (or "right hand")
    ... there are many more, but these are the ones which come to mind now.

    Let us use your theory that the French were either mad, drunk or absent minded in their naming of places.
