Whilst the importance of self-belief, self-reliance and hard work can not be denied nor can it be denied that children can be liberated through education.

However the question arises not only how the current situation has come about (children are supposedly turning away form education) but also why the alarming rates of migration amongst those having attained tertiary levels of education in the Carribbean.

The blame must to a large extent be the result of a failure of government policy that is those who are taksed with providing the appropriate environment for growth as well as a demonstrative lack of societal cohesion

Children need a sense of place and direction to thrive these they often emulate from their elders so by implication this must be were the substantive blame lies.

As long as this is not accepted the responsibility for change is left on the shoulders of the young with predictable results.

What is required is acceptance of responsibility by the society as a whole a more creative and thoughtful approach to growth and development, that to me seems to be the challenge to us all.
