As a vehicle driver, one has to stop for the passenger at all pedestrian crosses and they might trickle one or two at a time.....and guess what all along the way the tourist attempt to cross aided and abetted by a hungry Taxi driver trying to make a dollar. That slows down the traffic tremendously. Why not do like the school zones and let a cop stand and allow a group to cross at a time?
a traffic cop at that intersection might be an efficient and effective solution to the problem.
