I am 43 yrs old now and i will never forget the large billboards the ministry of Agriculture under Josie put up after the 1979 election victory. It's just sad that we did not capitalise on this real agricultural diversification. On reflection it would have cushion the effects of this global crisis on our economy and our over dependence as a one crop economy such assugar cane and then bananas. Are we still looking for another miracle crop or are we gong to truly diversify our economy to truly be self sufficient and feed our people. It's sad that our economy is so heaviy dependant on tourism and the illegal drug trade. As a nation we neglected true agricultural diversification.We had few farmers and plenty banana planters. Will we ever learn and truly diversify our agricultural sector to feed our people?
