I fully agree with the bus drivers. If crooks (posing as foreign investers) could come here and get all sorts of tax exemptions, incentives and then some, why aren't our local bus drivers or any local business person for that matter, get a piece of the pie.
At least the profits or losses from the bus drivers remains HERE to re-invest, take care of families, infact contribute to the overall development of the island. Show or named me one foreign investers, presently, who is investing a % of their profits here.
Let's not even go thus far...show us one who banks his profits here...
Its high time bus drivers begin to contribute to our society and the development of the infrastructure of this country. Bus drivers are free riders in every aspect, compared to an employee who has to pay approximately 300.00 in income taxes and 100.00 in NIC payments what do these bus drivers contribute? Besides because of their behavior they are the ones who will fall below the poverty line in the next couple years and we the tax payers have to help give them some form of subsistence. Is only in SLU bus drivers want to be driving top class buses, where are our priorities in this country? I am a strong advocate for public transportation, then we will see how much power bus drivers have really.....
"Regarding the concessions on buses the NCOPT argued that the level of inequity that exists among the various players in the transportation sector puts its members at a disadvantage. The NCOPT president argued that while taxi operators, farmers, car rental companies and the airline industry continue to receive benefits to boost operational profits the same cannot be said for the members of the NCOPT."
Maybe instead of the bus-drivers getting duty-free buses, less of these other sectors should get duty-free concessions. That could then mean that duty rates can be lowered and the same amount of government revenue generated if there are more people who are supposed to pay.
Duty-free concessions and then be granted only in exceptional cases and should be an exception rather than rule.
those parasites are at it again. this group of broken english speaking idiots contributes nothing to society. the majority dont pay taxes and above all they are the most illmannered set of idiots in this country. its high time government take the bull by the horn and have a national bus system. i am fed up with those pricks
was happy when i heard that the gros islet bus association wont be part of this. linus stclair is a political sevenday adventist hack. bus drivers have done nothing to merit duty free buses. bunch of parasites.
Duty free buses? Are they mad? First they don't pay taxes and they want duty free? How do they expect the government to repair the roads that they complain about daily. IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. Its about time the current government decides to stand up and put an end to this madness. Groups seem to think that they should just "strike" to get whatever they want.
Okay, give them the duty free buses. But make sure that a national bus system, with bigger buses comes on the island to replace all these little inefficient buses causing traffic and accidents on the road.
Whatever. They want duty free buses. Some of them need to learn a lesson or two in attitude adjustment. The attitude some bus drivers display when it comes to children riding their buses is appalling! A child has to pay the full adult fare when occupying a full seat; that is ridiculous! Isn't a child still a child at the end of the day?????????

Adios....!!
Guy Jospeh, take heed of this adage: "never dirty the pond you've drank from", one day you may become thirsty, again. That day is soon approaching.
You forgot where you came from; rest assured, you will be back driving trucks, again, pretty soon.
and the customers want to travel in clean busses, with the fare dropped to where it was before the hike in oil prices.

I know, virgins are so hard to find. These days all thats on the market are used products.
Guy Joseph told them that they are entitled to duty free buses. They have a right to demand it.
