"Joseph lamented the lack of things made in Saint Lucia especially the type of items tourists would like to travel back home with if only to say that it was made in Saint Lucia and not China." ... Guy Joseph.
You see, whenever creative St Lucians host exhibitions, shows, seminars, etc., our government ministers' are NEVER in attendance.
So for Mr Joseph to make the above mentioned comment - it is indeed a shame!!! Too many times, government ministers, and P.S.'s are invited to come and see what St Lucians have to offer - both the young, the the accomplished artists. They never, ever show up!!!
It is HIGH TIME that government of St Lucia (whether Yellow or Red) realise that the CREATIVE INDUSTRIES in St Lucia be given a front seat!!
I write this with a passion, since Mr Joseph is displaying his ignorance of the role St Lucia's Creative Industries play in our economic welfare.
As for his recommendation of the school opening it's very own "boutique" ... this is a very good idea and venture, but not only to ply to visitors - but for us St Lucians as well. Too many times, St Lucians are looking for articles made by us, and are unable to obtain same, because they do not know where to find things made in St Lucia.
When members of the St Lucia Arts and Crafts Co-operative (a retail shop at La Place Carenage) visited Mr Joseph in his capacity as Min of Communications and to see if he could liase with SLASPA to prevent the inevitable failure of their retail shop - he did NOTHING to assist them. Mr Joseph seems not to have A CLUE of how beneficial "Made in St Lucia" can be to St Lucia!!! He had to see it - finally!!
And I go further to say ... Mr Guy Joseph displayed his ignorance of things "MADE IN ST LUCIA".
Those involved in the CREATIVE INDUSTRIES in St Lucia are the Artists, Crafters, Entertainers, Producers, Teachers, Consultants, Fashion Designers, Textile Artists, Actors, Theatre and Film Technicians, etc, etc, ... all of whom are having a hard time in their trade - and for Mr Joseph to up and say that he "lamented on the lack of things made in St Lucia" - a very, very, very ignorant remark, and insulting to the Creative Industry sector in St Lucia!!!
I say to Mr Joseph, that he should encourage his fellow ministers to ATTEND ALL THE EVENTS surrounding the Creative Industries in St Lucia when invited to do so.
When the CDF hosted their National Arts Festival earlier this year - no government minister or permanent secretary was in attendance at any of the events.
When The St Lucia Arts Festival hosted "Word Alive" earlier this year - no government minister or permanent secretary was in attendance.
Whenever HeadPhunk have their monthly events - no government minister shows up for some real St Lucian entertainment.
When the Creative Development Network host their monthly Craft and Farmers Market in Rodney Bay, they are nowhere to be seen.
So - again, Mr Joseph is showing up his ignorance of the Creative Industries in St Lucia - that's if he knows who Robert Lee is!!!
I am really glad that he showed up at the Geo Charles Sec School's event - kudos to him for that ... but his comments were quite crass, and showed his complete lack of recognition, and his ignorance, of what St Lucia really has to offer in the Creative Industry sector!!
