The beginning of the end of a failed institution.
The UWP leader and leader of the opposition should now bend over and fall from grace as he often did in the past. Humpty Dumpty is leader-less, life-less, sense-less, brain-less and clue-less; he should never be permitted in the halls of parliament as a representative. He's what you called a failed X-dolter.
Is King intelligent enough to understand the UWP constitution? This is what that should be asked, first of all.

i guess whether its King or whoever becomes party leader will be getting the perks of a free chauffeur ride to and from parliament and any official opp party engagements... i hope king doesnt get to stay on as party leader he got enough perks from stlucia tax payers already ... free rental , travelling , diplomatic passport... speaking of diplomatic passport oh that is also part of the perks as DR.KA.. pointed out that the new labour gov will hand over to opposition leader.. i hope an honest person becomes party leader ... i dont want to see our tax money squandered as b4 on a failed and weak excuse of a leader in opposition now and forever

Your propaganda style of journalism strikes again!!
There are rules, regulations, laws and by laws, etc etc etc in organisations.
Members resign from their elected posts for reasons within these rules.
You make the party organisation look weak, instead of what is the norm, in ALL organisations, following their policies, laws, etc.
STOP IT!!
The UWP can only be renewed if they choose to have a frank look at their makeup, their historical weaknesses and their reality as an organization without the large personality of John Compton as their political leader.
It will require that the players like "Ossie Boy", Bristol,Stephenson King, their general secretary and other long time players recognize that they have been found wanting over the past 15 years in providing any vision to the organization. This is particularly true when you consider they are up against an organization focused on winning elections at any costs.
Up until the last vote was counted on Nov 28th, 2011 the UWP's dysfunctional hierarchy thought they could win in spite of 4 years of disaster after disaster. They reminded me much of the SLP in 1979 -1982 who also felt that their internal divisions and lousy record of governance would be overlooked by the people of St. Lucia. They then spent another 15 years in the wilderness.
The question is: Will the UWP also spend 15 years in Opposition because the venal personal agendas of their leadership trumps the viability of the organization ?
There are numerous questions to ask:
Should Richards Fredericks remain as a member of the UWP?
He is detrimental to the party but on what basis can they kick him out as he has not been charged by the law? The answer is that unless he leaves on his own volition he remains as a background figure in the party and should NOT be given any posts in the executive. The party should then refuse to run him in 2016 or when elections are called. He is toxic !
What do you do with Stephenson King?
Stephenson King has proven to be an inet leader. In opposition after 1997 he also proved to be ineffective and just a lead weight on the party until Sir John Compton came back. He is incapable of doing anything more than retaining a seat in a future elections. He should be replaced immediately as the Opposition Leader in Parliament and as political leader of the UWP. Gail Regobert appears to be the only alternative for now though it is clear she will only play the SLP's game as she is weakened unless she can get another job even while the rep from Micoud North.
The UWP then have to find that strong, focused leader who is not afraid of coming up against the SLP and also has a vision for St. Lucia.
They also need to bring in young sensible candidates and members of the exexutive to replace the dinasours who have basked in Sir John's aura but contributed a limited amount to the party's success in the past years.

We have the right people to join the UWP staring us right in the face. As it stands now vulnerabilities run very high especially among sidelined qualified slp folks like the Drs. Long and Raymond including Albert Fregis. The UWP should target those folks including the well-loved Dr. Allison Plummer and especially Dr.Long and Dr. Raymond.
Mr. King is generally loved among the UWP but we are faced with the reality that Mr.King cannot hold on to the reigns of leadership of the UWP. Mr. King and Mr. Frederick must do what is in the best interest of the party and give up their leadership role with dignity and respect.
The party can regain power with the right group of qualified candidates. The UWP may have sanked at an all time low but the SLP is heading in the same direction especially now that SLP supporters are complaining about Kenny and his policies and his sidelining of Dr. Raymond and Dr.Long. SLP supporters are constantly complaining about Kenny's elitist Cabinet picks in the persons of Fletcher, LaCorbinere, Kim and Foster not to mention his policy on advantages to Opposition MP's.
The UWP party should face the truth, face the reality and gather the pieces quickly to become a formidable Opposition. If that can be achieved we will regain the reign of leadership in the next five years.
