Do we need a Red Light District ? Well, appoint a commitee to look into the pros and cons of the proposition. They can start by looking at Holland's sex industry.

It's amazing how quickly and easily people accuse other people or institutions of hypocrisy simply because they don't agree with a particular point of view. Those who regard the Church's position on this issue as hypocrital because of the nastiness of some priests don't understand the Church and are themselves being disingenuos. Should we accuse all doctors of malpractice because of the actions of some doctors? I for one do not agree that King, Cherry, Jn Baptiste and Day are "best placed to recognize and apprise us of the dangers of having an underground sex industry operating in Saint Lucia". As far as I know none of the aforementioned have done any detailed study on prostitution on our island and further more none of them can say with any assurance that the action they propose will work. Can they tell us whether prostitutes are the ones mainly responsible for the spread of HIV/AIDS? Is it the law on prostitution that creates the stigma prostitutes experience or is because the society as a whole feels there is something inherently wrong with a man or woman selling their bodies for sexual pleasure? It can't be the law, because as we all know the law has not been enforced. How will the country handle the growth of prostitution that could result if the law is abolished? What message will we be sending to our young men and women with the law's repeal that will basically say that sex work is legal and cool and is like any other work? As a society we should be working hard to discourage prostitution because it constitutes a violation of the mind, body and spirit of those who engage in it.

@1:35PM VIOLATION OF

BODY,MIND AND SPIRIT U SAY?

I WOULD LIKE U 2 TELL ME WHAT DO U CALL THIS ACT COMMITED BY JUDAH THE SOCALL FOREFATHER OF YOUR JESUS??

IT IS WRITTEN IN YOUR BIBLE IN GENESIS,38:1-30.
A LITTLE BIBLE STUDIE
READ VERSES,16-18.
JUST 4 A QUICK-KEY.
PART OF 16.AND HE TURNED IN ONTO HER BY THE WAY,AND SAID,GO TO,I PRAY THEE,LET ME COME IN UNTO THEE.
AND SHE SAID,WHAT WILT THOU GIVE ME,THAT THOU MAYEST COME IN UNTO ME?

17. And he said,i will send thee a kid from the flock.
18. and he camein unto her,and she conceived by him.

yet another one if u will?
Genesis.30:14-16.
14.And reuben went in the days of eheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother leah. Then rachel said to Leah, Give me,i pray thee,of thy son's mandrakes.
15.And she said unto her,Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband?and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said,Therefore he shall lie with thee tonight for thy son's mandrakes.
16.(a little short reading)LEAH WENT OUT TO MEET HIM(JACOB)And said,Thou must come in unto me; for surely i have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her thay night.

JACOB IS THE FATHER OF JUDAH
SO WHAT IS JACOB 2 YOUR JESUS?
SO WE CAN SEE THAT JESUS CAME FROM A LINEAGE OF PAYING 4 A LITTLE ONE NIGHT STAND,OR BETTER YET PAYING 4 A LITTLE "BOMM"
FREE UP THE BOMM THIS IS WHAT 60% OF LUCIA BORN FROM.
JESUS CAN UNDERSTAND PROSTITUTION IN DEMMAND A LITTLE BOMM MAKE DE MIND,BODY AND SOUL HAPPY U CAN REACH HEAVEN BETWEEN DE SHEETS.

The Catholic Church needs to keep quiet. Until they stop granting annulments to their friends, they have no moral authority on any such issue. Hypocrites.

I am yet to understand how decriminalizing prostitution will reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS or any STD for that matter. Unless, the increase in cases of HIV/AIDS, since the the closure of the NAPS, can be directly linked to prostitutes who are in hiding because they are afraid to be prosecuted. Isn't their information supposed to be confidential? Further, is there a greater number of cases of HIV/AIDS among prostitutes? Is there any evidence that decriminalising prostitution has been a factor in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS in countries with a lower incidence or prevalence than Saint Lucia?
I honestly would like the people calling for this action to shed more light.

I see no difference between decriminalizing prostitution and drugs. Some persons exercise great hypocrisy when they go against decriminalization of drugs but decide it better to decriminalize prostitution.

Be forewarned that both professions have huge implications (negative at best) for society. One is not better than the other.

It is very important that we educate the masses more about the age-old profession. For the person who quoted the good old book-the Bible-- be informed that it also states that our body is the temple of the holy ghost, which requires that we keep this vessel free from intentional harm or evil.

Education is key here. Once persons are adequately informed then whatever decisions they make will be theirs to deal with. Our Social service dept must also ensure that persons be provided with the resources needed to address issues of concern to them. The government of the day must also ensure that adequate provisions are in place for the destitute and indigents among us so they will not feel compelled to sell their children or themselves for cash.

Why do these so called smartass doctors think that all lucians are a bunch of idiots. How the hell decriminalizing prostitution Laws lower the instances of Hiv/Aids. Is there something magical in so doing? You guys are only making it easy for international sex perverts to find easy sex with under-aged boys and girls. I say, if you scrap the "Law" you are creating a situation for only the poor in St. lucia to be burdened with a health situation they cannot aford, and the doctors will get richer, by billing the Government for every visit by the victims of Aids. A more commonsense law would be to keep the "gays" out of the Island.
