My God! How is it that poeple who can read and write are unable to do so without hatred or anger? Clearly "our connection to the Crown" does not mean the same to all of us. Those who lead the battle against decolonisation would recall that their efforts did not receive any support from Buckingham Palace. Indeed much of the Queen's wealth was acquired by unflattering means, through conquest, plunder and pillage. The only downside I can see from cutting ties with the Crown is that we will lose the benefits that membership of the Commonwealth provides, which is not insignificant. CSI

As an Englishman who visits st lucia frequently, I am proud that we have this common bond. I say the same to any canadians and australians I meet on my travels. Not only does it remind us of our shared history, this unique link has made it far easier to travel between these countries and it brings our peoples closer together, which can only be a good thing. Caribbean people have made an important contribution to British life for many years since the war, and it is shameful that this is not more widely recognised.
