Here you go again. Another article and another attempt to become an apologist for the SLP---
St Lucians should give up on your writing- It's amost as if you have become the press secretary for the SLP- To say that SLP did not outright rejected the project- does not leave the rest of the country with much to say-
it doesnt take a genious to acknowledge that asphalt and mining had some politicking in this uwp gov at the time.. it makes innuendos rife with corruption perception of that company and by large the then uwp gov...
IF SLP wishes to start fresh with H.I.A redevelopment that would be a great thing although we tax payers will have to foot another payment for new designs and contracts ... we need a totally new & unobstrusive terminal that is ICAO supported.. the old hew..terminal is too close to the runway plus the parking space for airplanes is too small.. so a new building with jet bridges, numerous security checks, automated checking kiosks.. ETC... we need a modern and very classy type of terminal along the interior designs of the previous H.I.A terminal under uwp... an airport hotel would be so advantageous if it made part of that design.. as the only island with such a hotel attached to an airport.. we need to better all other caricom airports esp barbados.. so we can boost as a nation that our airport is nicer than barbados..with all their boastful ways finally put to rest when we in st lucia can boast to have the most modern and largest terminal in the region
What we should be focus on is the 101 positions Kenny have had against this project. Micah is correct about Asphalt mining in part, but have not given us a true picture of the many positions of the St Lucia Labour Party. It's all about who you support, and nothing to do with what is best for the country-
"...we need to better all other caricom airports esp barbados.. so we can boost as a nation that our airport is nicer than barbados...." --------------------------------------------------------------- St.Lucia would go broke trying to keep-up with Barbados. We should do things according to our needs and the resources at our disposal; forget Barbados.
The en rouge SLP's are a bunch of idiots & first class liars to the best. SLP was totally again the Airport development, SLP said they stop collecting the Airport tax as soon as they form the government, bunch of teething liars. Kenny Gwen Tony to love that Airport tax. En rouge red & dangerous, they better stop the BLEEDING in St.Lucia cause everything is red for them.
St Lucians need to fully accept the fact that the COMPLETE HIA redevelopment project is a HUGE project by any standards because it entails bringing together so many factors. For example, (i) construction of a highly efficient and well-designed Terminal Building along with sufficient Taxiways, 6-8 Bridges (Jetways), 2 full-length Runways (the second for future but imminent growth), sufficient Car Parking facilities, etc.; (ii) a first-class East Coast Highway or Speed Rail to connect our North and South, (iii) the elimination of Vigie Airport and the commercial redevelop of its prime real-estate land; and so forth. Such a project would automatically put St Lucia on the international map as well as encourage international investors and businesses, many more tourists, and by adding thousands of new jobs to our nation, it would soon pay for itself. In total, however, such a project would cost more like $650 million-plus. Could our small island afford so big a project? Maybe not, but a well-structured international investment-consortium could: one consisting of our government, Taiwan and/or China, Brazil, Hoteliers, and others. Remember too, big investors prefer big projects, e.g., look at China’s humongous billion$ hotel project in the Bahamas. As the saying goes, “In for a penny, in for a pound.” Why waste $450 million on a half-baked project? At last, St Lucia has entered the world’s radar. We are no longer considered one of the backwaters of the Caribbean. A leader with great vision and heroic bravery could pull it off. However, do we have such a leader or leaders? If St Vincent/Gonzales has been able to pull off their extremely complex airport project, surely St Lucia could manage ours, and much easier too!; and as for competing with Barbados, that issue is irrelevant right now because Barbados is currently teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. St Lucia has so much potential! That used to be said about India, Brazil, and China but look at them now! Now, it's our turn!!!
to bloggers 3:46 pm / 10:42 am... u guys are right .. i shouldnt compare or try to compete st lucia with barbados.. to each its own..right now vigie airport has been in deficit/losses for up to 5 yrs already...no more eagle, cbean star, fewer private jet arrivals..when will the gov put a unique vision to replace vigie airport.. its common sense if u ask me..its obvious that this area is the only land available to expand castries city..its a goldmine esp having the sea, beach + the best location in castries ..imagine 6 star highrise hotels, conference centre, parks, malls in the place of this horrible GFL charles airport facility..
its true investors love huge projects look at hong kong e.g..hong kong intl airport has plans to further expand its already superior asian airport hub..just this new airport in hong kong has made billions for the whole city of hong kong.. if H.I.A NEW TERMINAL can be of superior design, ultra modern, futuristic & with natural glass ceilings allowing sunlight & trees to be grown in this airport..then we can truly put vieux fort on the map..& that alone can bring plenty of investments to the south..imagine also if vieux fort gets a brand new COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY.. then v fort might even surpass castries..that would be nice..
"... its true investors love huge projects look at hong kong e.g..hong kong intl airport has plans to further expand its already superior asian airport hub..just this new airport in hong kong has made billions for the whole city of hong kong...." -------------------------------------------------------- You have the nerves to mention St.Lucia and Hong Kong in the same sentence?

MG owns the VOICE and writes anything he wants too. Blatant bias. We should award this man "journalistic bias" of the year.
