The public image of lawyers

Ms. Glasgow, the main problem with Lawyers, as with our Doctors, is their obsession with the age-old "bottom-line": the MONEY! Instead of working diligently and with national and international development patriotism and faith-inspired hope, as do the regular Public Sector teachers, nurses, other public servants, priests and our more humble labourers, the lawyers and doctors, due to the nature of their historical socialization, look first and foremost to the BOTTOM LINE: l'argent! And of course, "money is the root of all evil", you better believe it. So, these days, and since Shakespeare, Lawyers have thrived in making the BUCK above everything else. It is all about l'argent! If you look around casually, most Prime Ministers and Presidents, by far, are lawyers, and they are the very persons who are messing up our world. It is for this reason that the wise King said: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” And, Trudy, do not be surprised if indeed one day, certain societies and political movements, decide to kill all the lawyers. Human history is as yet a very young history, and the business of humankind has millions of years yet to transpire, in spite of the blokes who constantly predict the imminent second coming of Christ. All the above having been said though, and to be fair to the lawyers, humanity really should not be surprised that lawyers have become the vermin that they are; after all, the very nature of their profession forces upon them the need to become expert liars, conmen and con-women, bluffers, smarties and, eventually, inevitably, criminals in their own right. BWAPEN.

Typicla lawyer/client relationship in SLU: my brother was in an accident, spent all his money to pay medical bills, then lawyer bills hoping to get some compensation from the driver's insurance company. After about 5 years the lawyer lost all his files then wants my brother to go through the process all over again, tell me that they are not crooks. I can give you another example of my cousin/her building contractor/lawyers and all the monies she lost. Had to sell the house at a loss and move to a foriegn land.

Saint Lucian lawyers, from the emergence of this poor country from the shackles of colonial status, through to the farce of what has been called independence, have characteristically robbed and cheated their clients as modus operandi and standing operating procedure.

As the more literate and educated group in society closer to the powers that be, they were more informed. Apart from that, their profession put them in control of immense power and influence over changes in state and individual wealth, property, and the related records of those transactions.

The 1948 Castries Fire saw a massive transfer of wealth to that group as the records were systematically obliterated, and the land and subsequent power grab became irreversible.

There are some survivors of the tragedy, who swear to this day, that what might have been originally a small accident was fuelled with an accelerant to spread the fire to other buildings in Castries, to wipe out legal records and paperwork.

Graphic pictures of the burnt-out remains of the tragedy survived, but remain hidden, up to this day.

And of course, the victims of the land and resulting power grab, are guilty and responsible.

The Great 1948 Castries Fire will go down in our history as days that forever will live in infamy.

Interesting piece of history you just wrote there. Thank you for this. By the way, I am a bit confused by your statement which reads: "And of course, the victims of the land and resulting power grab, are guilty and responsible." Why are the "victims" of such a massive and unconscionable rape of their possessions "guilty and responsible"? Just a bit confused here. Thanks for your answer. BWAPEN.
