The Squeeze of Doing Business

It is much too sad; when good, decent people like Gerard Bergasse could not stay on for a longer period with the Chamber of Commerce; so that St. Lucia can be better poised for better things. He is an open-minded; honest and non-partisan individual who like his father stood up for what is right for Saint Lucia.

Although his father; deceased Peter Bergasse supported John Compton; he stood steadfastly against matters which were clearly not right as done by Compton. Towards his final days; I do not believe Compton was very happy with Peter Bergasse's opposition to what was going wrong with the Compton administration.

Gerard speaks about what all St. Lucians know are truly killing this country.

KENNY ANTHONY has only served to worsen everything in this country. He and Phillip Pierre in particular; are hell-bent in politicizing EVERY LIVING THING in this country; to the very destruction of the country.

This government is pretending that all is well in this country. But this is not so at all.

The action taken by the USA regarding the Police Force is a "telling sign" for us to recognize that all is not well. And we know that this has very little if anything to really do with the Police Force.

Saint Lucia's alignment to dictatorial governments in Latin America and Castro in Cuba speaks volumes about what and how; the Government is thinking.

St. Lucians must wake up; and take action against this madness.

Now the Chamber of Commerce is obviously being stifled. That is a very bad signal.

If idiots vote for true representatives of themselves, namely, other idiots, why on earth or when will sensible policy ever emerge from this?

When will we, in Saint Lucia ever learn the simple truth that you cannot create a silk purse from a sow's ear. Damn it!

When will time ever be taken to research the issues instead of just stringing meaningless prescriptions in rows of filler sentences?

Neither the private sector, nor the public sector has approached the other in any significant way regarding the way forward on productivity. Yet, we know the prosperity of the nation depends heavily on increased productivity.

To the uninitiated, both in Saint Lucia much UNDERDEVELOPED private sector (See how they could not come up to snuff with the necessary computerization for the VAT?) and the public sector, have a kneejerk reaction to regarding productivity as relating to ONE SINGLE FACTOR PRODUCTIVITY, namely, labour productivity.

Yet, there is in the basic output divided input representation of the kernel of the idea, formulations for measuring one factor inputs, multi-factor inputs and total factor inputs, in whatever levels of output that may have been generated.

This inordinate focus on only labour productivity betrays a lack of knowledge, skills, and abilities of managers nationwide.

Do you ever hear a lot about the need for training the workers to get improved productivity. Yet untrained workers cannot produce superiors levels of output by managers just lamenting a lack of what is essentially labour productivity.

See? They ignore, productivity of (raw) material inputs, of capital (by targeting improved ROR), of
capital equipment (by a focus on under-utilized capacity, by
pushing for overseas markets to attain economies of scale)) of
information (and related information technology), and molecular productivity (by recycling, re-using, and reducing input materials or fuels doing double-duty, preheating water
and other materials with the sun's heat -- free solar energy --
and heat exhausts from combustible processes).

Our GDP will only increase with
greater and more efficient use of
available technologies and material inputs.

Up to now, with the Peter Principle dominating promotions, recruitment and selection, plus
surplus clueless leadership in both public and private sectors, Saint Lucians continue to under produce, forever barking up the wrong tree.

The name BERGASSE is nothing new. WHAT HAS HE DONE LATELY ?

Where is the Bergasse Foundation left as a legacy to continue any good work that he may have started. Was not smart enough?

That people and party stalwarts align themselves steadfastly to the party that legislates in their favour as a quid pro quo regarding electioneering contributions, does not in itself make their lives all that worthy emulation. Nor are they beacons of enlightenment and success in the broadest sense of either word.

Self-centredness? Yes, but of course!

Patriotism? :( Now, that's a stretch!

To ignore the role of the domestic economic environment with a skewedness towards the ease of doing business is definitely misplaced.

To do this is to ignore the array of factors and the rating of those factors that investors use to arrive at business and investment decision-making. And it is of import to note too, that many of these factors and especially the ratings attached to them are very subjective indeed!

What is the government's next one-note Samba? The last one was about borbol, contracts, Ali Baba ministers, with khaki-skin, black and brown skin, and drug lords in Cabinet, etc. This one is about STEP-ping into s*it.

Bare gas, you say? Agreed.

Bare gas!

Or, is it bare fart!
