This is a real tragedy; a place where I would roam into the nights, and the scariest thing was the Lodge people shaking chains of iron to scare people with Satan, and the Cherry tree and Plum trees at the Marian Home was fair to plunder; plums were late, after midnight.

All these criminals with guns. I Always had guns, .22 Air Rifle, hunting Pee-Peerit, Coo-coo-ma-york, and actually shooting a friend through the scalp accidentally while attempting to shoot off his hat from his head en-bar-mango.

Now I own a couple of 12 Gauge Remington Shot Guns, a 9mm Smith and Weston, and a 380 Walther PPK, which has a nasty kick. I did not even mention the BB-gun I spent hunting Pee-peerit in Soufriere.

What can be done with armed criminals who terrorize the population? Can the Government offer a Gun-buy-back no question asked, where criminals can turn in illegal guns for cash - what is the value of a Lucian Life?? If you can get ten guns from the hands of criminals and save the life of your son, how much is that worth?

Lastly, criminals have no loyalty to each other; offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of an armed criminal, keeping the informant anonymous - the person calls and he/she is assigned some file number that can be identified only by the informant? Whatever! but get these guns off the streets.

Know where you're coming from Son-of-man; for I can also relate to owning a Diana .177 though less powerful than your .22 never the less it was fun as a lad back in the days at Mourne Du Don Castries during which, guess who was the sheriff in town playing cowboys and Indians. The point is our parents then, guided and entrusted in us a greater sense of responsibility even at such tender age in owning such a toy, though I was lucky since no one got blinded or hurt by our antics. OK fast forward: What's going on today with them related generation with the gun? answer; the decline of traditional family values in society coupled to etc etc etc guess we've heard it all before. However the epidemic of low self esteem and hopelessness amongst some of our people of all ages must not be over looked. Make no mistake, although we've come a long way, our inheritance of a damaged economy and infrastructure as left by our colonial masters remains the main cause of the problem. Perhaps the idea of REPARATION might save us before it's too late. May I suggest we need various micro and medium size manufacturing industries for job creation towards those graduating from Sir Arthur Lewis and Monroe college since even they also are potential victims. I am convinced the government needs to wake up and invoke their diplomatic influences in obtaining greater financial assistance from Britain for cutting edge development in ST Lucia. It can be said that we owe some debt of gratitude to the Chinese and Taiwanese and in my opinion they are welcome to enhance their international profile with Lucian blessing however we've got greater issues at hand, therefore if they're willing to assist, then thank you. We need to introduce enhanced social and political science programs in our schools at junior level in subject such as business studies, social mobility and group dynamics with practical role play and exercises throughout the land thus teaching our young people early alternative social norms and values......Yes we can.
