That's a great idea. However, effectiveness of such a program warrants further research and evaluation especially on targeted groups. A team comprising of seasoned researchers and evaluators are needed in that regard. Those charged with this responsibility must first tap into the pool of trained St.Lucians.

Before we start shelling out cash to these unemployed we need to control population growth because a lot of these young peple by right should still be under the care and support of their parents until the have the tool to generate their own employment. Stop irresponsible birth practices and then seek to support those who genuine cannot be taken care of by their circumstances.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. We are now entertaining the idea of a "dole" (like the British system) which we simply cannot afford in the first place.
How much would suffice? Who should qualify? How long must they be paid that stipend? What qualifies for "seeking employment"?

There are a whole lot of unintended consequences that will accompany such a policy. More young people will have money for the Friday night street bashes. More ganja smoking you name it. Even if we place limits on what the money should be used for, how will we enforce these limits.

Nothing short of a national effort at skills training, then micro entrepreneurial enterprises should follow the training. Teach a group of young people how to repair small engines, and or appliances and once they have successfully completed help them access funding at reasonable rates to start a small business along these lines.

Animal husbandry, (pork production and chicken production). This is based on the "Give a man a fish, you feed him for one day. Give him a fishing pole you feed him for life." principle.

OK, here we go.
The welfare state coming from the APC. Unemployment pays; so does crime.

What stupid comments here, I left Saint Lucia for North America because of lack of jobs. Do you think I like it here, I would return in a snap if you can find me a job, so stop your stupid comments. Who feels it knows it. It's the economy, stupid...jobs, jobs, jobs.
