Ms. Jennifer Gaston, I wholehearted agree with you. I think the systems are good. Why, were those supposed to be working on the systems trained? It is simple: the incompentence(s) of the higher ups filtrating down..alas, a very, very sad state and story!!

This epitomizes how incompetent our Saint Lucia`s most educated people are and how we have a long way to go in catching up with the rest of the world. It is a real shame to tell someone from another country that in your country birth certificates are printed without names when the name should be the first thing typed. The country is ruining its own people. Now there will be a bunch of individual walking around with no identity. It is 2009 in the rest of the world and 1990 in Saint Lucia.

I am a proud St. Lucian residing in Florida who took a short trip home to visit my dad who suffered a stroke and survived. I took the opportunity to obtain the "NEW" birth certificate because my passport would expire later that year. It took a whole day of my short trip to find out that I will be getting the same old certificate that I previously had corrected by an attorney.Needless to say I was not a happy camper. I must conclude by saying that Mother Helen need to clean up her act and weed out the incompetent members of her workforce. Especially at the Registry.

It would be wise to be able to apply for saint Lucian bitrh certificats on line for residents libing out of their home land. I travelled to Saint Lucia to take care of my sick father and decided to get a birth certifcate, I did not know taht it wa sno longer where it used to be and it took me a whole day trying to get a number, with a lot of pushing I spent a whole month in Saint Lucia and still never happened to get thru because I had to be there early enough in the morning to get a number. then my time came to return, had to leave without the certificate, which I really need for important reasons.
Think about an online link for Saint Lucians residing overseas to be able to apply for certificates.....

In March I requested that my mom renew her passport so that she would visit me in July (5 months). One would think that this was planning ahead. On March 4th she submitted a request to renew her birth certificate. She has a birth certificate and an expired passport; both of which were issued by my beloved island. However, as per the official's request, the birth certificate she has been using for years is no longer valid, she would need to get the new and improved one. Okay thus far. She was told to come back in a couple weeks. This was 3 months ago and many trips later after being told to come back again and again. And again, on May 27th which was when she was told that all request submitted in March would be fulfilled, she is being asked to come in 1 month. Is this 2010 or 1910? And I am sure the process was quicker and more accurate then than now. This sucks and does nothing to encourage my moving back to this island that I love so dearly. It seems, to me, that the people who want the fraudulent birth certificates would still get then but the legitimate people are the ones suffering. What will 4 months to 1 year wait do to ensure the integrity of a birth certificate that 1 week to 1 month will not do? Does someone have to give birth to it? If so, at least one would know that in nine months one would surely have a birth certificate. What are the people processing these request getting paid to do? Frustrate the law abiding citizens. It is working. This is not helping anyone.
