This is what happens when you disrespect civil servants. By just placing the monies in the bank without reaching an agreement is a form of abuse. Essentially, he is saying to them "you have no choice take that".
By so doing it means that negotiations make no sense because the Government will do what it wants. Have we become authoritarian. What has happened to democracy? Cost of living is extremely high yet persons are expected to live on the same salary. Nothing is being done to easy the pocket of the people.
What is next? Will the Government decide that they will start to pay workers what they feel like when they feel like it? Or worse will the Government start to dictate to the people of Saint Lucia what they can or cannot do?
It would have been better had he not instructed that the money be placed in the bank for the workers until a counter agreement was made. In the eyes of TUF he has added insult to injury. This act shows that he has no regard for Trade Unionism I never thought I would see the day this would happen at all. But life is a cycle what goes around will soon come around.
There is a reason why the school terms has 2 more weeks to run. Because it is felt that students need this time. To say that it's not proven whether the time is necessary is nonsense, because it is the same as saying that a child can learn nothing in a day. Why then do so many parents pay for extra lessons for their children? The writer needs to be careful that in expressing his bias for the teachers cause he does not expose his poor logic.
