"...Notwithstanding the obvious difference in approach to foreign relations between China and Taiwan, some politicians here continue to criticize the government of Taiwan, for reasons known only to them..." This is why Peter Josie is incessantly maligned by every St. Lucian blogger, even the children; he refuses to speak the truth "come Hell or High Water." Josie knows full well why Taiwan comes under severe criticism, everywhere they set foot in the world. I won't waste time to argue with someone as deceptive and blatantly opportunistic as Peter Josie. Anyone who takes 15 minutes to Google "Taiwan interference in the internal politics of developing countries" will see the mess that Taiwan has made in Africa, where they are being kicked out over and over from so many African states.
josie you are the one who needs to whell and come again. I wonder when you will accept the fact that you are a failure and will continue to be one. You greedy envious man.
The coarsening of our political discourse began in the early 70s with George Odlum (bless his soul) and Peter Josie being the prime instigators and proponents of villification, ridicule, and demonization of their opponents. As a young man growing up I was taken aback by the brutal tatics of SLP politicians. Remember bags of feaces thrown at a UWP meeting in the Boulevard. Remember calling the late Compton "Jab-la" that was their doing. This was when a lot of us lost our respect for our elders, lost our innocence, and became emboldened to holler invectives at Clendon Mason, Ira d'Auvergne, Ti Camisol, etc. when we encountered them. So Josie is being disengenious and intellectually dishonest when he tries to lay all the blame for what we have become at the feet of Kenny Anthony. I hold no brief for Kenny because in their quest to gain political office some people will lose all sense of probity, propriety, decorum and ethics. They then portray a different persona once in office or have been forced out of the arena like Josie has. They become holier than thou and statesmen. Give me a break. I have always advocated for Taiwan over China but Mr. Chou certainly breached a lot of protocol as an ambassador and exhibited little respect for our laws and customs. I also believe that all the posturing that the SLP engaged in was unnecessary (setting up advisory group and hiring a washed out Lewis as foreign policy advisor) window dressing. They knew all along that they would have liked to get the millions of dollars that were not funnelled to the consolidated fund by law. We need to monitor whether they will be tempted to give a wink and a nod to the new ambassador to do like Mr Chou and find all sorts of justification for it.
Those politicians need to be careful who they deal with. They must be able to decipher their hiden agenda before making deals which can come back to hunt them and their siblings in the long term. China is on the prowl. They have an economic expansionist policy that serves their interest in the long run. Be careful not to sell out before it's too late.
POLITICIANS be careful who you deal with. Do not sell our birth right for crumps. Stop serving your own selfish interest. Deal with those who will help unconditionally.
Well said Josie. But I agree with the sentiments express by Lucianboy. You cannot lay the blame of indiscipline and decline in manners at only Kenny Anthony and current politicians but should be man enough to reflect on yours and Brother George contribution too.
Oh Josie, Josie, look who's talking. You the bad boy who wanted to turn our little Island into a communist society. Peter what I would like to say to you, before you write certain things take a long look at yourself. I suggest you wheel and come again with better facts. Until you do so I have no respect for you.

Josie is talking the gospel truth, Alva & Kenny Gwen Tony are confused about Taiwan.
You're the best person to know that.
