St. Lucia is losing its competitive advantage as a place to do business because telecommunication rates are excessive and electricity much too high. And with the introduction of the new Labour Code its attractiveness is further diminished. The code give each employee twelve personal days a year which could cost a company employing two hundred staff, approximately two hundred thousand dollars per annum. And now a company has to pay hourly rate workers for National Holidays, even when they are not productive. This is causing a major concern for FDIs and St. Lucia may witness a decline in such companies.
