I agree with the above poster. The city doesn't look like what a city should look like. The Castries market i don't think anything can be done to it but to demolish. The place stinks jumbies all over. If the plans i saw for Castries is still the same plans it will be beautiful when all is said and done.
As long as we preserve our french and english architecture in the building design it's fine with me.
But, Storm, you get them off the streets and guess what will happen? The crime rate goes up because you can't tell me these people are just going to sit at home with no means to generate income.
I propose birth control policies be institued to help prevent this problem from getting worse. It would help to reduce the number of vendors on the streets while we try to sort out adequate distribution of our resources.
Zeigy, since you live on Island, I was wondering if you can ask the powers that be if they ever gonna invite the Midnight Groovers to play at the Jazz Festival.
Zeigy, I'm not saying they should just be kicked out and left to their own devices. They could be placed in more organized and less intrusive places. These places are yet to be determined as the article says but i hope its done as quickly as possible.
Some St Lucians are just tooooooo primitive to comprehend, law, reason, progress etc etc. I thought the country-bookie attitude expired with the dinosaurs.
This is all about law, rules and enforcing it regardless.
Rules, regulations and law are there to protect everyone. Here is my simple idea.
1. Put a huge BUS terminal where the Gardens is to remove all transport off the streets of Castries, there's no need for the Gardens.
2. Remove Port Station to the San Souci area, where it will have enough land area to manage itself and equipment plus easy access.
3. Level the old Port Station and the make-shift arcade that’s attached to it and rebuild a complex to accommodate local and tourist vendors.
Manage it well so the revenue can sustain the establishment and its staff plus it will be a great source of extra revenue for the city of Castries.
Do not build another Place Carenage or Pointe Seraphine. Foreign tourism such as Canada-USA-Europe etc would love to purchase goods made locally and the history of St Lucia along with goods at Pointe Seraphine and Place Carenage.
The solution will be: no more minibus congestion on the streets of Castries “just imagine that” No more vendors littering the streets of Castries and being a multitude of rude and obnoxious nuisance to other citizens and all tourists alike.
They behave that way because they have to make a living, even if they are dead wrong for congestion on the streets of Castries.
This is not difficult for most countries to vision, however it might be overwhelming for some St Lucians to grasp because of their primitive ways and reluctance to any change or progress, despite all the plans in the making for the city of Castries.
If I had the cash I would do myself to show how these ideas will create jobs, resolve this massive problem and the rewards will be unimaginable.
I love my “Mother Helen” and its peoples, however progress and change of attitude must be embraced in order for “Mother Helen” to join the 21st century and survive. I did not forget about crime, another time.
I totally agree with the idea to remove those irritating, unmannerly people on the side walks. The sidewalks was made for pedestrians and not to be used as entrepreneurial facilities. They should place them in a controlled environment. They are really noisy and disrespectful. I believe its about time for the government to begin the remodeling of the city of Castries because its really disgusting for a country whose prime foreign exchange is based on tourism. Theres nothing attractive about Castries except the jobies and bedraggled streets which serves as an attraction negatively. The government need to move St. Lucia forward instead of thinking of themselves.

Yes get them off the sidewalks. Its not a good look at all and is quite the nuisance.

I'm not really a Jazz fan, or really that into music.
