Mr d'Auvergne's letter addresses some serious issues which of course are readily seen by studying the prime Minister's speech.
i would hope that St.Lucians take this letter seriously and DEMAND a proper accounting from the Government.
Further,St. lucians should ascertain that no work proceeds on this airport matter until all queries are fully satisfied to the benefit of St Lucians

This project has malodour all over it. In other words it stinks.

How can Allen Chastanet object to Cameron's tax and then sit in Cabinet and agree to a US$35 Airport Tax on visitors? This is a clear policy conflict.

Asphalt and Mining can't even build a proper road - now we are asking them to build an airport terminal.

During his tenure as PM of St Lucia, it has become a habitual thing for Mr. King to ignore those whom he disagrees with. There isn't something new. Mr. d'Auvergne isn't the first and won't be the last. It's a side of Mr. King that the public don't know. If you dare disagree with him or even question his judgement, your suggestion or letters go in the trash can.

Maco,
You serious??
That IS serious.
We need to take stock fellas

They say there are 2 sides to every story. I guess they're wrong. King gave his side; now we have d'Auvergne's side? I guess we need a third side ...The Judge!

There are a 100 sides to every story involving suggestions made to King. You have only started to dig through the dirt which make covers this present adminstration.

The Piarco Airport project led to the American consultants (Raul Gutierrez, Richard Lacle and Leonardo Arturo Mora-Rodriguez, being convicted of corruption and were sent to jail in Florida. The Trinidadian contractor is fighting extradition to the USA to stand trial for the his alleged corrupt role in that same airport project.

I hope TY Lin and Delant are aware that they will be watched both in St Lucia and USA.

So much money spent on Commissions of Inquiry; so little revealed and so few lessons learned by successive Governments

D'Auvergne has raised some interesting questions and whilst I agree whole heartedly for the need to build the Airport (even if I disagree with the timing); Prime Minister King owes it to the people of St Lucia to offer them a level of transparency. Do I expect it? No!. Does he stay up at night to worry about the consequences’ of his in-action? No! Does he give a dam what you and I think? No! So what is the point of me posting this comment? Just had some free time!

Hello everyone,
Although the information contained in this news article that I am sending here, does not have a direct bearing on the airport project ,it does affect it financially.
here's the news article: RACIAL PREDATORY LOANS FUELED U.S.HOUSING CRISIS. the article is on line, i.e on the internet
Now it is the housing crisis in the US that spurred the recession worldwide.
As you read remember that SUBPRIME loans carry higher interest rates.
So now you will know.Example for you.Enjoy

Well said above: it's the international bankers that call the tune: they favor 'their own' and discriminate against others. The financial deal is not good, the US$35 entry tax is too high, and US$140 million is simply not enough for a really impressive terminal, but can any small and debt-ridden Caribbean island - despite its tremendous tourism-growth potential - get a better deal? Unfortunately, MOST UNLIKELY!
Since the colossal world financial foul up of 2008, the big banker boys have become even greedier.

That deal is being spearheaded by Economic Hit Men. The primary goal is to ensure that small island states receive loans which they know they will never be able to repay. As a result, these EHM will come in and dictate to governments on spending cuts in education, health and other soacil services. One does not need a grandiose airport to attract tourism. What one needs is high quality services on the island. If my sinus was not affecting me, I would have been able to smell the stench..that's a set up.

I'm glad to see you've read John Perkins' book "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" and you're absolutely right about this danger. However, you're totally wrong about St Lucia NOT URGENTLY needing a first-class airport accompanied by the usual first-class facilities. You need to understand that world travelers will no longer put up with substandard travel arrangements, facilities, or accommodations; and don't forget that these days there are too many other lovely tropical islands competing for every traveler's money. For too long St Lucians have believed our island so beautiful that we didn't even need to develop its basic infrastructure. In fact, it has only been since our infrastructure was improved over the last 30 years that the tourist world has shown any interest in our island. I'm sorry to say this but that's simply the way the world and business works.

Sometimes I have no choice but to feel sorry for this Prime Minister of ours. I feel sorry he wasn't able to get a sound education, I feel sorry he has a puppet in his led administration, I feel sorry he has no leadership potential, I feel sorry he has become a millionaire without inheritance or a damn cxc and now I feel sorry because A&M is about to ruin my country!

Sound education my arse!!!!! I oppose king but to say that not having a "sound education ala SLP doctrine" is what inhibits his performance is horse pop. With all of Kenny's education how comes who got Rochamel, Helen air, Helenites, cost over run and all the runs. Choops!

This is unfair opposition to King!

You must be a fool to think St. Lucia doesn't need a new airport. I'm sure most of you'll haven't seen the mess that Hewanorra is on a busy day. It's not pretty believe me.

It shouldn't be too late to try adjusting the entry surcharge down to US$25 per passenger, because by the time this terminal is up and running (hopefully by mid-2013), it will already have to handle between 750,000 and 1,000,000 visitors, and by within the next five years closer to 1,500,000. With that kind of passenger movement, US$25 should be enough to comfortably cover debt financing. Furthermore, as a major regional transshipment hub this figure could easily reach 2,000,000-plus. Finally, attracting this much activity to St Lucia will add hundreds of millions of dollars to the economy along with hundreds or possibly even thousands of new jobs.

To the blogger before the last....you must be a fool to oppose based on political grounds that project!!!!!

Kenny could not in power and out of power provide jobs for these people, but you are prepared to block progress because of politics? What a shame!!!

What I meant under the Economic Hit Men section was that Hewanorra should not be JFKed. The authenticity of the environment should be maintained: the salty taste of the sea breeze, the beautiful skies, the warm temperature and the surounding greenery, should be experienced by passengers when they deplane.

The area in Vieux Fort running alongside the airport should be refreshed with trees and grass and unpleasant aspects like old vehicles should be removed.

What I meant when I wrote in the Economic Hit Men section was not that Hewanorra should not be upgraded, but it should not be JFKed. The authenticity must be maintained by exposing passengers to the tropical weather once they deplane. They should not be "tubed" into the terminal. They should be able to feel the salty-breeze on their lips, the blue skies, the warm temperature and see the greenery surrounding the airport. The planners should go further and beautify areas exposed to the landing environment of aircrafts from Soufriere to Vieux Fort. There is the need to beautify the Vieux Fort area surrounding the airport with trees and flowers.

My dear people, no right thinking Lucian will be against the Airport project. We need to do it and the time is now for all sorts of reasons. The problem is the involvement of Asphalt and Mining. Recent events paint a clear picture of A&M role in these contracts.

A&M's birth coincided with the Babonneau Highway. If not show me where you heard of A&M before. And so it happened that A&M sub-contracted the work as they have no experience in building roads; no equipment etc. But one thing for sure they sub-contracted for less than the contracted price of the Babonneau Highway, meaning they made a profit for doing nothing. In these hard economic times wouldn't the Government save tax dollars if they gave the contract to a company that could do the work for the sub-contracted price? Obviously they had to keep A&M to do one thing....collect profits and that is called siphoning money.

The Desurisseaux Road is exactly what happened with the Babonneau Road...just check it out..Again more siphoning...Do you think this is coincidental?

Then we have the Airport project. The Government is trying so hard to hide the role of A&M that they announced a consortium with A&M handling finance and administration. What does that mean? Finance and Administration...it means they have the contract. This consortium business, is a smokes screen.

So there we go again with A&M not able to construct even simple roads and drains so they sub-contract, being given the Airport contract that they will sub-contract again and collect the profits. More siphoning. I am sure with the right professionals with experience in airport development, the tax payers would save some money (millions). But A&M has to be accommodated to perform the functions it was created for.

Lucians please think for yourselves, all these inappropriate clandestine behaviour are well calculated and are known by the majority of the Cabinet Members (save very few).

We as a people must demand that the Government re open the tendering process and let professionals apply for the Airport Project so as to protect St. Lucia's reputation. REMEMBER WE NEED THE AIRPORT PROJECT BUT CANNOT ALLOW SOME UNSCRUPLUS POLITICIANS TO MILK ST. LUCIA LIKE THAT.

who ever said that it should be JFKED. Is a fool, when it rains, you want the people to walk in the rain? you know much money it cost the airlines to wait till the rain eases off a bit?. I'm sure you don't know much about the aviation world. WIth jet bridges it's easier to deplane and everything. Then you have people with disabilities.
