"He further included that in a case where there is an appeal to object the bail, at the end of the day the magistrate tends to bail them. "

but when they are arrested and charged by the police the magistrates are sometimes lenient with them and they get a slap on the wrist and that is the problem. They go back on the streets and commit crime. This frustrates the police officers because they work so hard to apprehend those guys hoping that they would be put away for a little while and to know that they are back on the streets especially the hard core criminals.” noted Constantine.

Is the problem with the magistrates then?

Do they have provide reasons why they granted bail or were lenient with the criminal?

Or is it that police did not prove their case well enough?

Maybe with the escalating crime rate, the standard for proof needs to be lowered. This may mean that a few more innocent people might get convicted but at this rate many more innocent people may get killed from the escalating crime rate. This is probably a trade-off that St. Lucia needs to make.

Thats the problem we have, some of us see Bordlais as a storage house and not the system which is under funded.

Quote "I am appealing to the people to report maters to the Police so that justice can be served" unquote. Therein lies your problem, is justice seen to be done in St Lucia Mr Trevor Constantine?

It is a sad state of affairs when the citizens of any country, particularly citizens of such a small country has developed a blatant disregard for law. It appears that we have a a problem on our hands where vigilante justice is the order of the day. The question is why have we suddenly transformed into such a bloodthirsty nation? Word on the street is that while that particular individual was being slaughtered, the assailants were being cheered on and encouraged to "kill him."Have we no regard for life? It seems right to acknowledge that amidst our Soufriere populace lies a rare breed of barbarian, a gladiator type remnant who thirst for blood and vengeance and do not care for the consequences. As for the one who got so hyped up that he stabbed his victim even after he had rendered him helpless with a fatal skull bashing, I ask him, who's gonna cheer you on now that you are in the pen? His accomplice who ran away like a cowardly dog, I hope the police catches up with him real soon.Oh the lawlessness that plagues our country aches my heart.

Sadly the wrong people go to prison, there is more than one innocent in prison and the system supports these wrong doings, again its who you know not what you know. Let the innocent go free and make room for the real disgusting villians.

Down with the apologetics! Those who are involved in the drug trade should be shot dead by firing squad in the public square!!!

Is the deceased not the same individual who stabbed a prison officer to death in the boulvard some years back?

Its very sickening and disgusting that from the top meaning those in leadership position overthe years were doing wrong and believe that it was ok and was gettng away with murder and the situation today stems from years of neglect by our missleaders all those years [rooster coming home to roost] Now what will this so call primeminister sayto the nation when he cannot correct his own ministers who for years are getting away with murder ]Fair helen is truly in a deplorable state]

How can you talk about law and order for ordinary folks, while MPs are breaking the law with impunity? Marcus' files disappearing, Federick under-invoicing, Frederick warning his thugs that the police are coming. Cabinet signing away money to a minister under the guise of a concession.

UWP government is a cesspool of corruption!

The deceased is the same individual who stabbed a prison officer to death in the boulvard some years ago, and (1) What is he doing out?
(2) He left the same way he took someone life just the day after...It is sad to see what our country has come to but with all this talk back and fourth nothing really is being done.People are taking it into they own hands..We need to step up.TO SERVE AND PROTECT..pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee

Just what the hell is wrong with Saint Lucia. Everyone, and their grand-mother know that the First District Court, has for years, been dysfunctional. Files disapperaing, Monies ans complete Filing Cabinets disapperaing and the Head of that Department, remains in place. The First District Court stinks in every aspect of its operations, crying out to high heaven. No person in the Public service wants to go there. And those who are there, want to get out as fast as they can. Kenny Anthony knows that, Stephenson King knows that. But those craps, prefer to allow the entire country and the people to perish, instead of doing what is right, and GOD alone knows what is going on in this country. IN a very major way, there now need to be a Commission of Inquiry into the Magistrates Court, particularly District No. 1 and the Director of Public Prosecutions Office, regading the several disappearance of files. That is why, both Kenny Anthony and Stephenson King, notwithstanding these are so-called leaders of their respective parties, will lose their seats, BIG TIME. Everyone UWP,SLP,PPP, is working together to ensure these two rats lose their seats.Thank GOD for that, in advance of that event.

I fully agree with the blogger who said shoot the drug peddlers by firing squad in the public view. Way to go, BLOGGER. But importantly, let us start with the BIG WIGS peddling drugs in the BUSINESS PLACES, BIG-TIME COMPANIES overflowing with mucho dinero, and massice projects, constero, and those peddling drugs in high office in government. Let us deal with the BIG RATS FIRST.Then everything else will fall in place.
