King does not know what he is talking about. since when do Temporary teachers get paid during the summer? If this is so, then the gov't owes me some money.

Instructing the 3.5% to be paid is a dumb and arrogant move. are u saying 'this is what i have, take it and shut up?'

i believe the teachers will take the 3.5% and still go on strike

they should ponder on that

I agree with you. Workers should still go on strike cause King can't be trusted and the man lies! He is the cause of this mess and he should step down as leader of this country, he's like a puppet on a string!

Every country is feeling the pinch. What is wrong with our St. Lucians?

It's clear the two sides are at an impasse in this dispute and so the matter should be referred to an Arbitration Tribubal. The issue is less about whether Government can pay but more about whether the country can afford such disruptions in critical services at this difficult time. Saint Lucia has not begun to feel the full effects of the global meltdown. Hotelliers are predicting a soft summer; major construction projects have slowed down or shut down. The retail sector will suffer even more and so will Government revenue, from loss of taxes etc. The country needs to be operating as normally as possible in these abnormal times. People need to get their goods out of customs promptly; parents who are already struggling need to know that their sacrifices in keeping their children in school will not be in vain; prospective homeowners who have already negotiated their mortgages will want to start construction before the rainiy season. There is too much at stake. A Tribunal of independent minded and competent people to settle this once and for all.

When, oh when, will we learn to work for the country and less for politics? When will our "educated class" think more objectively? The TUF reminds me of Guyana's famous jim jones. He led his foloweres to commit mass suicide! However, in this case, the leaders might be able to do the doxerie shuffle - flee saint lucia while the rest remain in shit street!

The money wasted on all these inquiries would have been able to pay the extra 1% but Stephenson King is too dumb to realize he is allocating resources the wrong way.

This is a 'recession!!!' It means no pay rises until the countries is back to normal. Every other country is doing this. What makes St Lucia so different? Surely all st lucians understand this. I think that the PM should pay the rise but not until the country is stable. It would be ok to take what he's offering now as long as the agreement comes in that the rest will be paid. It would be so bad if this had to effect our children's education, health care, extra taxes on food and clothes and anything else the gov would have to do just to make the rest of the money. Everyone else would have to suffer. Surely the safety of the country and the people are more important. I think that striking is not the right way, not everyone at once! There must be another way to do this?!?!?

Tell me where in the world has anybody gotten a 10.5 percent increase in salary over a ten month period, especially during this economic crisis. St. Lucians are just to dumb to realize this and what is sad is that our teachers who are supposed to be more educated and more informed are acting like fools.....Its time people got paid for actual days worked or actual work done...tell me how many of us will get a full salary at month end. Its time people realize monrose is a fool...

If Monrose is a fool, and I agree he is, so is Stephenson King for agreeing to such a deal last year.

The fact is that an agreement was made. Last minute the Government indicated that it was unable to pay the civil servants the balance which was disrespectful as there is legislation which dictates the time notice should be given.

Additionally, persons seem to be missing the point that at the time the agreement was made the economy was fine so stop saying that in this economic crisis who makes such an agreement. This agreement was done before this economic crisis where the Government of Saint Lucia has seen it fit to have a commission of enquiry which cannot turn up a thing up to now and Ministers are travelling all over the world and living in the lap of luxury.

It is not only about the money for the Civil servants but the disrespectful manner in which they are being treated. It is the principle of the matter. The Government has to remember the people they step on today are the same people they have to beg tomorrow.

The damage is already being done. No invesor in his right mind will come to Saint Lucia while this industrial strife is going on. Whether or not King is at fault, and it is clear that he carries much of the blame, the country cannot suffer because of his faux-pas. There are many avenues for resolving this dispute but neither side will see them. The issue is whether the Government can pay. Well...find a group of people who can say whether the Government can or cannot pay. I cannot believe King would expose the country to all that strife if the Government could pay.

The Trade unions representing Government workers must know they run the risk of losing public support for this strike action. Civil Servants are priveleged compared to other workers. They can turn up for work anytime or choose not to come to work and they get paid. They don't have to answer to anyone for their lack of productivity. Customs officers can choose when to inspect a container or barrel. Not a single civil servant has lost his or her job during these hard times. Compare this with the hundreds in the private sector that have lost their jobs. On top of all that these same workers can get passports to travel in search of jobs and they have to find ways to care for their children who are affected by the teachers strike. Not all workers are in the same boat. It's time for this nonsense to stop. I say set up a Tribunal.

Puppets. Quite frankly after TTP sunday I realize why there is soo much chaos. The prime minister is on a string on one side and monrose on a string on the other side. Who ever is giving monrose advise is having fun with him. The man could barely answer questions posed to him. lol TUF have their team of economist and lawyers who do not have a law degree and economist with no economics degree or experience. What is this place turning to.

Monrose and King are like two peas in a pot. LOL

Both are Jackasses! I too listern to Monrose on TTP yesterday and could not help but laugh. First off I wasn't inspired by him, two, there was just too many umps, and three, that wrasp voice of his come across as a man who had one two many drinks the night before.

The guy is out there, here and everywhere. I suggest that both him and King do the country and favour and resigned.

Puerto Rico laid off 45,000 civil servants. NY state and NYC are laying off over 10,000 civil servants. If i was the Prime Minister i wud say bold face either you'll take the 3.5% increase or to get it people will lose their jobs. Lets see how happy they would be to lose their jobs. I think they should have a law where Police & Fire fighters can't strike. Who is going to protect the country?

Anonymous said...

King has no authority to force anyone to take what he wants to give them. Don't you see that no one respects the man? King is PM in name only. That's all there is to him. Whether right or wrong he just dosen't have command any respect. Poor guy.

King is PM, but there is a Government made up of Minsters. How come so few Ministers have given their support to King? And what's this nonsense about policemen and firemen going on strike? What happened to the law that says workers in essential services can't strike? The law is being broken and the oposition is sitting on the sidelines and says nothing. A responsible opposition would stand by the law, because they will need the same law if they return to power. How can they make noise about the Labour Coade and do not defend the Essential Services Act? Double standards, again. St Lucia is going down the tubes. Again I say to the PM to pass this thing to a tribunal.

Too late now. Toute tee tou King Bousha!!!

The PM should stop beating around the bush and clearly show where St. Lucia's money is going. As St. Lucians we need to know exactly how bad or how good our economy is doing and where exactly are our taxes going too. The country may or not be able to pay the teachers but no one is sure because the information being released is too ambiguous.
