It is interesting that they tried to change the mind of the people rather than the mind of the Government. Render to the people what belongs to the people as agreed. Cost of living is extremely high in Saint Lucia, gone are the days when a loaf of bread would cost 25 cents focus on price control instead of trying to control when the public servants get their increase.
It's a game that the government is playing. They know full well they can pay. Even as they tell us things are bad, there is no let up in their arrogant response to questions ask of them by the media and the common ciitizen.
Trust me..it's not as easy as people think to trim $1Million dollars off the budget. And it's defintely a bad idea to try to trim $1Mil from Debt Servicing, Retiring Benefits and Contingenies which are inescapables, meaning that jump high, jumo low, the charges simply must be paid when due. And it's not easy to take $1-2million from the Tourism budget either...simply because that money is not there to begin with. It must first be earned via taxes etc. Even the money for the monument is not yet in the Treasury and may not get there this year. What the Government is saying is that the money has to be found by the hook or by the crook.

Yes, of course the government can pay! And you can drive a BMW, too.... ... if you sell your house.
It's all about priorities isn't it?
The government is responsible to the people for spending our tax dollars for our maximum benefit. What's the priority in giving the unions that extra .5% now instead of later?
If a person works a little over 200 days in a year, then 1 day off work is almost .5% of their annual employment. The government should dock the workers' pay for the time they didn't go to work, and maybe those people will realize that they are losing money just to get .5% now instead of later. That's a high interest rate they are paying on that deferred pay increase! LOL
Micah: I beg you, for goodness sake, be fair and objective on this issue. I have observed your apparent aversion for proper research and the apparent fronting for certain politicians. But I beg you to bring back some semblance of fairness to your reporting.I can no longer tolerate your lack of objectivity. Take this in good faith, my boy, or else...good bye to "The Voice of Saint Lucia" for me.
This is a very biased piece of reporting. The Union should be thrilled that you are their mouth piece as this gives them access to free press. Do not impose your biased opionis on your readers. The Voice should be ashamed.
This is a very sensitive issue Micah. Will you at least try to be neutral in your reporting.
anonymous, From what i have gathered the public sector, are stating that the prime minister has been very disrepectful to them. he has debited their accounts of 3.5% that they did not accept.I think the issue is how they are been treated and not just the money.
i hope parents can stand behind the teacher, because they are the ones who make comments like,it is time for school to reopen when their own children are on vacation. The teacher take care of stundents of all different culture, and personalities. They also take money from their pockets, to assist students in purchsing lunch, pens and other stationary. GIVE THEM WHAT THEY DESERVE.

Pastor Micah, why do you mock the "men of God"?
