The Americans are too paranoid, in their eyes everyone is a criminal, they use the 9/11 experience to surpress others.

This thing should not be looked upon as a laughing. I don't even see it making Mr. Bousguet look small.

All it has done is our status as an independent nation. We are but nothing in the eyes of big nations such as the USA. They set the rules and we just have to comply.

To laugh at Rufus and thing that you may have socred some cheap political point is to not understand that american laws over rides whatever you think you are in your own country. Plain and simply, we just a bunch of idiots who don't recognize an insult to our sovereighty.

This thing should not be looked upon as a laughing matter. I don't even see it as making Mr. Bousguet look small.

All it has done is our highlight our status as a non-independent nation. We are but nothing in the eyes of big nations such as the USA. They set the rules and we have not choice but to comply.

To laugh at Rufus and think that you may have socred some cheap political point is to not understand that american laws over rides whatever laws you believe governs your nation. Plain and simply, the more I look at it all, is the more I am inclined to believe that we as St Lucians are no more than a bunch of idiots. We are so laced with partisanship that we don't even recognize an insult to our sovereighty when it is right before us.

I totally agree with mr bousquet he should have been screened in the VIP lounge and not on the plane, this is utter disrespect shown to our foreign minister, when the ammericans or any other foreign dignitaries visit our country we treat them with the uttermost respect that applies to their office, some of them don't even get screen. thats what u get for sucking up to the americans,it's high time we start giving them a dose of their own medicine to see how they like it.WE LUCIANS LIKE TO BOW DOWN TO THE SO CALLED BIGGER COUNTRIES(IE:AMERICA) TO MUCH

What the hell is Bosquet talking about? I was once on a flight from Logan Internation Airport (Boston); it happened that the Senator from Massachusetts, Senator Kennedy, was on that same flight. I observed there were not special treatments given him. He was screened, his wife as well, as everyone. He passed through the security checks and removed his shoes as EVERYONE. He did not go to the VIP Lounge.

He and his wife acted as normal and law abiding citizens. From what I observed, I could only conclude he did not asked for favors, name recognitions, or special treatment; nor was any given to his family.

Alas, Bousquet, on the other hand is TOO BIG SHOTS, TOO POWERFUL, TOO ABOVE THE LAWS AND THE REGULAR PEOPLE to follow established rules and regulations. The US governments should just ban him from visiting; he committed fraud in the US anyways...the likes of Bousquet makes me sick to my stomach...vomit, even...

Regarding "Anonymous said...June 9,
2009 1:36 PM"...will you not feel safer on a flight knowing that everyone was screened?

You call established measures instituted to protect people "paranoid". Do you or have you ever traveled.

For your information, I feel much safer on a flight having the knowledge that everyone on the flight was screened...

Be careful Saint Lucia because the Americans might invade us thinking that we are haboring terrorists ie. Mr.Bousquet etc.

I agree with you Marvin Thomas, tell it like it is my brother.

I don't think there was any disrespect intended towards the office of Foreign Minister.

I just think the security people had their special day-vision googles on, and spotted Bruce Tucker trying to pass himself off as Rufus Bousquet!

I am so disappointed at some of you commentators. Are you implying that the American pilot who said that Bousquet had to be screened before the plane could take off was also playing politics? Do you think the Americans give a damn who Rufus Bousquet is? When the pilot said that rufus had to be screened, he should simply have gotten off his seat and returned for his screening, and there would NEVER have been a story in the first place. Who the HELL does Rufus Bousquet think he is to disregard the captain of the plane? The captain could have forcibly removed him from his plane if he wished, but at least he was kind to him, and simply requested that he should get his screening. When John Compton travelled, as Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, he used to get his screening, like anyone else. I understand that Bousquet did not receive his screening in the Diplomatic Lounge, and that was unfortunate. Bu he knew that he was not screened, and it was his responsibility to see to it that he got his screening before boarding the people's aircraft. This has nothing to do with politics!!! Bousquet must realize that he's not a Federal Prisoner anymore, and he must begin to behave like a gentleman, if he's going to be a Foreign Minister. And he must NOT FORGET that the Americans do not give a damn about who is a minister or not, when it comes to security matters. It makes it even worse when they know that he was a prisoner in the US for car theft, identity fraud, etc., etc., etc. Do you Saint Lucian commentators know what you are saying? I am a Saint Lucian living in England for 30 years. I love and respect my country. I am aslo a proud Saint Lucian in the UK. But, I am amazed that any of you can stand by Mr. Bousquet on this matter. You need to check yourselves and STOP playing politics with everything. This is too absurd to stomach!!!! Donna.

Anonymous said...

Donna, you asked who the hell is Bousquet? He is Saint Lucia's Foreign Affairs Minister and if you were truly Saint Lucian then you would acknoledge that.

You are the one playing politics, we're just being patriotic and defending our sovereignty.

I live overseas too but I will never forget where I came from; have you? Some of us are just Saint Lucian in name but inside we hate the land that gave us birth.

Anonymous said...

Destruction is the code word for people like Donna. They don't mind that they kill a whole country as long as politically their get their way back to office.

NO one is defending the actions of this government. All we are saying is that ths report is a threat to our our soveringhty and an insult to people who call themselves independent.

Anonymous said...

LOL , I am enjoying these comments. With all the pappyshow that this government is doing.... at least they willing to make us laugh till our belly BUST !!! LOL LOL LOL LOL

All them Flambeaus have to do is dump King et all. Unite together under a new umbrealla and crapo smoke Kenny and the SLP pipe.

UWP can still when the next election if they move fast. They have the funds to fight any elections. Kenny will prove to be no match.

Flambeaus rise up. I know most Flambeaus would rather not vote at all if it means voting SLP.

hey Mr Bousquet, obey the law. You are not above the law.

If you do not want to be checked, get an AIR FORCE ONE for your travels. Otherwise TSA is right.

Anonymous said...

I am truly amazed that Bruce Tucker would attract such attention knowing that he has a criminal record.

I am a Flambeau and I am embarassed that Rufus is representing my country and has shown utter disrespect for the people of SLU.

He has failed to realize that he is a represention of the people of SLU and that his actions ultimately reflects poorly on us.

If this incident had happened, say in the US, I bet you his arse would have been hauled off the aircraft with an Air Marshall and his criminal face would have been plastered all over CNN.

Doesn't he realize his careless actions could have destroyed the reputation of the airline and SLASPA. Not to mention the safety of the other passengers.

Rufus, it's not always about you.

Dufus should respect the office to which he has been appointed and try to develop a mature behaviour.

What you people don't realise is that Saint Lucia is not part of the USA, She has her own constitution and she is independent.

Remember when we became independent, England gave Canada a bigger role in our politics etc. to offset American influence because America can make or break a country, hence we belong to the commonwealth "realm" We are no puppets.

"What you people don't realise is that Saint Lucia is not part of the USA, She has her own constitution and she is independent."

Solid and those that have argued this case along the above are on target. Remove the politics and you all won't miss the insult of the report.

Tell me when this incident will go forever to the trash bin ...

This has nothing to do with violation of sovereignty and independence etc. etc. This is an issue of airline safety that applies to all carriers including American carriers that fly into and out of American ports of entry. For some time now the Americans have been certifying aircraft; after 9/11 they extended safety issues to passengers. Mr. Bousquet's experience could have happened at any airport in the world. In some airports you enter a VIP lounge after clearing security; in others you clear security after leaving the VIP lounge. The fact is fact one's status as a Minister or one's presence in a VIP lounge does not exempt that person from being screened. Pilots are screened too. But once they take control of the plane they have the final say. Mr. Bousquet and all other Ministers must understand this and conduct themselves accordingly. All this independence and sovereignty thing is a lot of crap as far as I'm concerned.

Anonymous said...

crap to you but not crap to readers like me.

I am not here to make a case for Bruce Tucker. I am here to defend our rights and degnity as a sovereighn state!

BROWN MAN said...

To Donna: send us some cash more than your wisecracks ...

To the rights defender above:
I don't want my rights to be defended by people who can't spell well.

Poster above, you're killing me, we often forget what a wicked sense of humor we Saint Lucians have.

Anonymous said...

Independence? Dignity? When was the last time we displayed any Independence? And where is the dignity in begging for aid from the very America that you've been bashing? Tucker will have no problem going to Obama looking for aid for Saint Lucia; and if American Airlines pulls out of Saint Lucia Allen Chasanet will go on bended knee to get them to return. Go to the US Embassy in Barbados and see the number of Caribbean people lining up for visas. We make a song and dance about Independence and dignity for the wrong causes. The point here is simple: The rules for airlines and passengers traveling to the US are international in scope and are not unique to Saint Lucia.

All the papishow coming from the SLP that "Tucker this" and "Tucker that", not one of them are able to get a whole of Tucker's nut. It is very obvious that Tucker continues to make a fool of all of them.

No matter what the SLP thinks, all politics is local. Tucker will be reelected without a doubt. Start counting seats and you may observe that in the game of reelection SLP is not a sure thing.

One seat at a time is all that is required.LOL

Anonymous said...

Well he has to feel BIG,because St.Lucians have allowed an ex-con to become nonetheless but Minister of Foreign Affairs!
You can dress a monkey in a silk suit but inside he will always remain a monkey!!

We are a democratic country, aren’t we? It’s the will of the people that count. At the end of the day If they claim that they want Tucker over some squeaky clean intellectual who very likely will turn bad apple, steal their money and mismanage their affairs, shouldn’t we respect their wishes?

Perhaps they are comfortable with the bad boy they know than the make believe that will follow later.Democracy, isn’t for the faint hearted. This is why I agree with the above post that Tucker may very well go on to win again.

You're right, the people chose him, case closed.

Bousquet, let them search your arse, who the hell you think you are? you low life bastard.

Poster above, your language tells alot about you and I hope the Voice starts moderating our comments. People like you are full of vitrol.

Some really believe that getting angry and disrespectful to Rufus will upset his chances of gaining reelection.

All they are doing is raising their blood pressure. As the saying goes, if you can beat him curse him.

What manner of fool waste his time at cursing a man elected the his own people?

St. lucians must wake up and smell the coffee. It is not a question of whether you like Rufus Bousquet or not. The point is the man is the "FOREIGN MINISTER" and must be shown respect. Would the US Secretary of State (Foreign Minister)ever subject herself to such an indignity whether or not Americans love, like or hate her. Forget the petty politics and look at the wider picture. St Lucia.
