How can you convey this message to the average voter who is forever deceived by money-for-votes and bogus campaign promises. In truth and in fact, they are the selectors of government with no sense of selectivity for the good of the nation's management. Government is the exact symbol of its People, with their wisdom and unwisdom.
Certainly you can't change the minds of the people overnight; the only future hope and alternative is government and constitutional reform.
I concur that this government is not qualified to prepare the challenges ahead notwithstanding it's present leadership.
And why should we vote for a bunch of intellectuals simply because we claim they are educated???
How many square pegs in round holes did we have in the last SLP government? Was Kenny qualified to be ministers of Finance? What qualifications did Finistere have before being appt Min of communications and Works. How about Mario was he ever a teacher??

Hello, with the exception of Janine, all the so called few good others are Labourites. The only reason why the Compton girl find herself on your list is because now and then she does give flambeau blows. Otherwise, you are as partisan and bias as bias can be.

The person who spoke about the qualification of Dr Anthony should also ask about the qualification of Compton because Kenny is much more qualified than Compton. King not in that at all. You spoke about Finistere who has a master degree, but never ask which school did Guy Joseph went to.Finistere did the most work on roads our ever than any other minister before him in our history. You should be ashamed to talk about Mario who was the best minister of education ever in St Lucia, a man who saw that every child in the country get a primary yes primary and secondary school place, which was never provided by the uwp after 30 long years. All the schools that was built are state of the art, not the halls the uwp use to give us. So which square pegs in rounds holes you are talking about?
As the article stated, the leaders (no matter what party) take up the finance mandate even though they are not the best fit. Therefore whether it is Compton, Kenny or King they have all lacked the comprehensive know how. But one thing I can see is that while studying irrespective of one's major there are atleast 10 foundation courses which comprises of myriad of fields. Hence although a management major may not be an accountant, he/she certainly has a grasp of the accounting methodologies through foundation courses such is financial management, cost and management accounts and Intro to financial accounting.
UWP parliamentarians may or may not be good parliamentarians but they are horrible as ministers

The comments in this discussion board shows why we have so many issues in St. Lucia. The basis of what qualifies potential candidates to be a Prime Minister or a Minister in St. Lucia as indicated by the above commentators shows the venality that goes for our philosophical outlook as a people.
What matters is not academic qualifications or previous employment or access to wealth but the CHARACTER and philosophical outlook of the indivudual.
What were the character and philosophical outlook of Sir John Compton, of Vaghn Lewis, of Michael Pilgrim, of the Bousquet brothers, of the PM and Ministers in the Labour government of 1997-2006 and of the present crop of Parliamentarians ?
There have been mass murders plus the rape of whole countries by persons who were very educated or illiterate, who held good jobs for years or were wholly unemployed before attaining political power.
At the same time great countires were well led by educated and by uneducated individuals.
It was not Sir John's education that made it what he was but his CHARACTER. He woke up every morning thinking about what he could do for St. Lucia and St. Lucian's.
He was visibly pleased in the presence of his people whether they came from the highest or lowest levels. He was hard working. A little reading on the character of great leaders will show that they all had failings as did Sir John but he was a man of great character.
I personally think that the lack of many of these traits are what make Kenny anthony such a poor leader and a danger to St. Lucia. Arrogance, self centeredness, a distant first cousin to the truth, unwillingness to admit mistakes, lack of humility are all the character traits of this failed leader who proved to be so incompetent and inept in managing the affairs of St. Lucia.
And stop going on about Jeanine Compton. What has she done in Parliament except stand up once a year to castigate the Government. Yes I also think Jeanine is a nice person but I have yet to see any of the great characteristics that are need for leadership.It is also our wont to praise people who are neutral because it meens that they are incapable of influencing our lives in any way.
Unfortunately even if a good or great leader would come up to us today we would not recognize him. all we want is someone who will promise us the world and not a leader of character who will show us how to achieve greatness. We do not want a leader who will tackle the REAL issues of our society because it will require that we have rules and regulations which we do not want. But do not worry if it will make you feel better to know all the Caribbean is the same.
We want unlimited freedom to do drugs, bring things through customs illigally, to park where we want, to have children out of wedlock, to drive unlisenced vehicles, to speed on the roads, to have our sons gun down another human being in the road then say "he eh trouble nobody", to get governemnt money for no work, we want to continue listening to roro and maypuis from souseres on radio and television and call it enlightenment, we want to curse in public, pee in public with no concern for the moral or physical environment. Then we want people to tell us what a wonderful people we are.
We are therefore happy with the characterless individuals now being thrown up by the political process becuase they simply mirror whom we are who will continue to let us do as we please as a people.
All this debating about qualifications is...well...academic. This simply demonstrates your dependence on others to do for you what you can simply do for yourselves. We DO NOT NEED GOVERNMENTS! All of you are members of either the United Whiners Party (UWP) or Super Lackadasical Party (SLP). Tell ALL politicians to go away because nothing makes them different from you or me. A paper qualification from a so-called recognised educational institution does not make you a leader. It is not even a pre-requisite for being one! Our politics proves that...a former bus driver can have the same power and position as a certified accountant or lawyer. Where does that leave you - the electorate? Absolutely powerless to the whims and fancies of those to whom you have given your authority via the tricky ballot box. We are all fools for doing this over and over every five years with the same result - politicians enrich themselves at our expense. Pointless who has more qualifications - I just want an honest politician who will work in my favour.

TG Jakes was supposed to have saved souls in St Lucia and here is this puffed up individual the head of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies Bishop Emmanuel Mc Lorren saying visit by tele-vangelist Bishop Jakes will result in tremendous exposure as a tourism destination .. talking about St Lucia as a tourism destination translates into $$$$$$$$$$ and is a form of pandering to the secular section of the society or system to get his share of tourism dollars for his media promotion/publicity on the heads of the naive, ignorant and misled the chuch congregation which are used as pawns in their phony games while pocketing all the loot.
