Also, the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) may pride itself in doing all it can to develop the Carnival product. But if persistent problems continue to prove otherwise, it may be prudent on the CDF’s part to enlist the services of St. Lucia’s talented minds to assist in that regard. - Stan Bishop.
I halfway agree with you, but more than that Stan.
CDF is definitely NOT equipped to promote, push or manage carnival. They show NO IDEA of marketing and promotion (have you seen this year's carnival poster? It SUCKS!!), no idea of accountability (people still waiting for the monies from 2009 and beyond!!), they show NO IDEA of the Administrative BUSINESS of carnival.
Carnival could only become a viable PRODUCT if properly ORGANISED run by people with a sense of business, marketing and accountability.
Thank goodness, we now have a Carnival Bands Association (who have to do battle with the nitwits at CDF).
What is needed now ... is for the Carnival Queen Committee to move away from CDF, and fend for themselves - put together a good Business Plan, get the CBA on board, and other "business" people with new ideas. Then they would not be running around like headless chickens weeks before the slated date of the Queen Show.
NOW .... St Lucia needs a proper NATIONAL CARNIVAL ASSOCIATION - not CDF!!!
If it is so easy, and you have so many ideas, whiles others do not, why can't you start that association you spoke about? because people will always follow a good leader. That is the problem with us St Lucians we always sit on the sideline and criticize because we always have all the good ideas. Although we we have so many ideas, we always wait for others to do the hard work for us, our biggest access is to complain.
Stan, in my opinion we should hand over the carnival production of carnival to the St. Lucia Tourist Board & Bet, they seeem to get all the funds to promote St. Lucia, and have all the experience on how to use it. Or even a collaboration of CDF & SLTB Interesting?
