Well, basically, if we start taking the rules more seriously and the consequences of breaking these rules are followed through, then it will train the St. Lucian mind to police itself and we would have less need for police officers, greater efficiency and higher economic output.

Michael, you sound happy and you look happy too.
You should wipe the grin off your face; this is no time to pop the champagne.

If this what passes for serious comment in St. Lucia then it not surprising that the the society can’t seem to get a grip of the Crime [problem and reflects a dearth of intellect amongst St. Lucian commentators ; or is it simply that the writer believes ve St. Lucians are too stupid to tell the difference between self serving clap-trap and serious comment and or analysis.

Unless and until the link between poverty and crime is recognised unless and until the so called crime problem is grasped as a reflection of an uncaring insular society unable to meet the social and economic needs of its citizens unless and until the have appreciate just what its like to live hand to mouth without dreams with little or no legitimate means of fulfilment in the face of the conspicuous consumption of the few.

The problem of crime can only be resolved when the need for a cohesive and compassionate society is recognised and understood by the rich and infamous. For it is their commitment which will spur the commitment of the have nots.

Rather than this self-serving, self-centered, clap-trap there is a dire need for a rallying of the peoples and a cross society strategy developed

The story in Jamaica in case you did not know is that of corruption in high and low places the violence of recent days can be directly attributed to the corrupt vacillation of the prime minister who by most accounts is implicated as having been the protector of this individual known as Dudus.

Enough of this sort of self serving rubbish the writer should extract his over indulged self serving self from the affray unless and until he is ready to make a recognisable contribution to changing the balance between the haves and have nots.

Okay Ishinga, you wrote six paragraphs and offered nothing but a sentiment everyone is already aware of.

Micheal Chastanet wrote even less than you did but identified a problem and a practical solution.

It's easy to criticise and see what's wrong with everything around you but difficult when it comes to actually offering solutions.

If you're not part of the solution then you are part of the problem, and this contempt you have for your fellow man is what is killing St. Lucia as we struggle to come together to move our nation forward.

The problem is Guy Mayers and his criminal son Samuel Snuffy Mayers. His gang ties in the graveyard have been investigated by police and what does he do? Send him over to Florida. This man glorifies all criminals on his facebook pages as well as msn but his father wants to speak about parents not doing a good job.

You said it well, Zeigy. Ishinga reminds me of Sparrow's "Well spoken moppers".
As for the last "Anonymous", he/she made sure they posted the same message about Guy Mayers on both commentaries. I hope they achieved whatever it was that they were looking for.
Until this nonsence stops, we will never recover our previous reputation for being the friendly, fun loving, and peacefull people we once were.

Go Brave Lucie!

Seems Zeigy & Chastanet smoking from the same weed (probably sprayed with paraquat)!

Zeigy, when/if you come out from your self-induced fog, please explain the logic and basis for your statement!

It's been a while since some dumb ass insulted me in the Voice comments section. It was starting to get a little boring on here.

"After a while, the perceived danger and excessive compliance with rules get internalized; one thing you don't see in Singapore is very many police. 'The cop is inside our heads,' one resident says."

That's an excerpt from an article in the January 2010 issue of National Geographic. You can find it on page 140 of said magazine or you can read it in the third paragraph on page four on their website here:
