You are not alone with that complain, thanks for the courage to mention it. To add to the irony, GOD forbid if an item of news came over the radio, the operators would change the station in a nano second. In the aftermath of the hurricane it was imposssible to find out what was happening especially if you were a passenger in one of those vehicles.By the way, there are noise abatement laws on the books.
It's the culture. freaking stupid one at that. What do you expect when we cannot hold our leaders accountable. What is the purpose of legislature? As far as i am concerned absolutely no music or radio should be played on any public transportation.Have we heard anything from any politician on this issue. If persons want to hear music or radio then they should travel with their Ipods and headphones. you pay for a bus fare and not for entertainment. We need to have leaders with the vision to change such backward and detrimental practices. To Nanton the radio should not even be permitted, bring your own with headphones we are in the 21st century. As you say there are already laws on the books, but they are not enforced. And we wonder of our crime situation and the delinquency of our youth. many cry for more laws, but what's the use if you cannot enforce those which are already there.
So true, this article. Once I simply asked the bus driver to lower the volume of his music; that simple request set forth a chain of events:
a) if you dont like my music, get down b) look at mate; mate rude en c) the school children joined in the fray
Laughing at me for "being middle age" and can't handle the noise, etc. etc. Yes, this is the attitude, from the the older ones, our young ones have to emulate; and we wonder why we are in such a mess...very sad!!
[1] I asked the bus driver to turn down his radio - got a very rude answer. I asked to be let out of the bus [quite a few times, because he could not HEAR me]. I finally got off, and the bugger EXPECTED ME TO PAY HIM - HELL NO... I got my revenge - put him out of $2.00 [a small price, but he was livid].
[2] Got a seat on the bus next to the driver. As he reached his hand to turn up the volume, my response "Don't even think about it ..." Told him I had a headache [I lied]. He slowly withdrew his hand, and we continued on our merry way ... I got my revenge.
[3] I have called radio noisy neighbours, and complained that I am [a] a student studying for an exam [b] just put my baby down to sleep [c] just got home from my night shift, and I need to sleep .. etc etc., all lies of course. After a while, the loud radio noise ceased. I never changed my voice or intonation, and didn't give a damn. I got my revenge.
Sometimes we have to use a little ingenuity to get what we want.

Nauseatingly true. Hope a noisy driver hits their tails before they reach 50. By that age most of them will be deaf anyway.
