Anguillans are better off now than the corruption that small-island, small-minded John Compton a Vencie brought hastily to St. Lucia.
Today his nasty legacy has created even more corruption. The son of one of his ministers, a US JAILBIRD, is Foreign Minister. He is taking money from countries supposedly to help hurricane victims but most of it goes to buy real estate and the rest is in a private personal account.
Compton's so-called independence is a curse.
Jailbirds, drug barons, doctors as MPs selling their patients' private medical records for profit. Ministers lying under oath before an OECS Court of Appeals. UWP ministers again taking government to court after the minister was caught under-invoicing. The customs officer was 'sent to Siberia' to an unrelated desk. Sorry. Desk.
The entire Cabinet of the present government of St. Lucia signed on to a Cabinet agreement to give illegal concessions to another cabinet colleague.
The latest from Vencie Compton's Kleptocracy and legacy is that a contract has been signed by a minister who brother's company is part of the arrangement. 3rd world Africa here we come.
A minister broke a traffic regulation. When approached the minister sped off in the car. Later the related files 'disappeared" from the DPP's office. The matter never went to court.
A minister blocked an application for business operation in the Castries market only to give permission to a friend and party supporter. This is called a croney.
Such a litany of nasty corruption happened under the party that gave St. Lucia independence.
Had St. Lucia been Turks and Caicos, the government would have been suspended and removed
The foolish piece of paper that foreigner Compton fooled the people with, called a constitution, that gives no legal remedy for all of this corruption.
One of these days that foreigner man's name will be removed from the country's place names for good.
Why do those people want independence? To be just like St. Lucia competing with Haiti as the worst corrupt country in the hemisphere?
Stupid CARICOM located in another sorry-ass state, Guyana, cannot do one single damn thing to stop the corruption. What is the use of CARICOM? What purpose does it serve other than to have ministers drink amd talk about meetings to decide other meetings?
I agree, independent from what, from politics perhaps? Compton left the nation high and dry after independence, the only one good thing he did was not to go Dominica's way and totally divorce us from the crown.
That is why we don't fully trust foreigners, Compi was one.
The OECS was the one and only good thing coming from the Caribbean...CARICOM is dead, so give it a proper burial, it's bones are showing.
Independence only gets those poor countries to join the sorry-ass states of CARICOM. Tell me. What the hell is good about that? I guess this senile writer believes that because misery loves company, Anguilla should join the CARI-GO-NOWHERE bandwagon. Retire gracefully and stop writing your usual crap.

Now you want to blight Anguilla with CARICOM, a moribund, paper-pushing, dog-ear-removing, money-wasting, and talk-shop bureaucracy, whose best days are behind it?
Governments should send even less money to the Secretariat in Georgetown. CARICOM IS LIKE GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD.
It is a waste of resources. Who outside of CARICOM regards it as ueseful? Nobody. Only the bureaucrats are committed to receiving a salary from the continuation of this foolish organization.
Nobody, just nobody would miss it, if nobody ever mentions the word CARICOM ever again.
