Now the lawyer is showing concern for the social ills that could arise from gambling but yet he is representing a casino that seems to be on a hunt to monopolize the St.Lucia market.
Stop being hypocritical with your false concerns, you (Foster) and Treasure bay that would continue to to get a fat paycheck and the end of the day if Treasure Bay's monopolizing tactics.
I am however an advocate for tight regulations of access to any gambling/lottery device in the island.
note to Treasure Bay, do not bite the hand that feed you. The same gov't that provided the avenue to operate are the same ones who can easily revoke your license and shut down your operations.
Here we go again! During the budget debate, the parliamentary opposition warned the government; they were told(I will soon post the clip on my blog) that they were breaking the laws of St. Lucia by distributing these machines all around the country. They[UWP] laughed - same way they laughed this week when they caution on borrowing 120 million dollars.
surely there must be a clearly defined licensing policy that ensures public safety, protection of children, prevention of crime and disorder, and public nuisance.
Why are some people so surprised that the Government that promised Boxing in Paradise now wants gambling on your door step. Did the Minster for External Afairs not move his office closer to the Casino at Bay Walk.? Judge a man or his party by their actions. St.Lucia keep sleep walking into the abyis. Never mind Willy James'.."This is St.Lucia where we are happy".The new slogan is "This is St.Lucia what ever it is....it goes".
St. Lucians leaders please do the right thing and stop creating more problems in St. Lucia. Gambling is a highly addictive habit. Gambling addiction is similar to the addiction experienced by cocaine/crack and other potent drugs. Please, please get those VLTs out from the reach of disadvantaged and impoverished youth and adults or get prepared to house more criminals and extend on the Wellness Centre to recieve more mentally unstable patients.
Oh, above anonymous, don't you know that Richard is a very nasty and malicious person? Take him out of the mud, but surely you can't take the mud from between his toes!!
Don't you see where "his type" put him to represent thier interest?...
You can take a man out from the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the man... boy some of our ministers act like vieux negs..and we wonder why persons are ill tempered and unmannerly and just like school in summer has no class... did you guess right.. view the uwp candidates on a platform...some role models they are..heaven help us..
wow, this is a disgrace, no problem in trying to add diversity and an array of activities/entertainment for our people, but putting these machines all around the place, i just believe that it is wrong and i guess if the casino had to go through all the regulations to be properly establish in st lucia, why isnt it the same for the VLT's and you cannot put gambling machines like these all over the place like supermarkets and bars or anywhere open for the matter. If one goes to the casino, they go there with the intention to gamble, if one goes to the grocery store then their whole aim will be to go buy groceries, but if you put a gaming machine right there at their disposal, then they may think twice to buy the groceries and may just spend half or all their money there because they may feel they can get more, when in really when we place these machines all around the place like that we are causing more social issues for our country. Our government need to stop acting ignorant about issues and must take into account ever action that they take.
MAke your money Stephenson and co - make your money. Don't mind them if the Taiwanese can pass red envelopes, what the hell is the wrong with screwing the population with a few VLTS...lol
That's the result of electing,an uneducated PM and self-serving Ministers!!! Who are these good for nothing, heartless, miss-leaders representing? The people are too complacent. They should not allowed politicians to place these machines at their doorstep. What are the views of rick, toot-too-boo-she and other pro party supporters on this issue? How convenient the site is down, INQUIRING MINDS WANNA KNOW!!!!

Treasury Bay seems to be scared of a little competition; wants to be the only game in town.

@above...I bet there are licensing policies/laws in place - WHO WILL ENFORCE THIS LAW, IS THE QUESTION?
tourist money or baby food money, hard choice?

Treasure Bay invests millions in St. Lucia
VLT's invest nothing
Treasure Bay creates many many jobs for St. Lucians
VLT's create nothing
Treasure Bay and all its employees undergo extensive background checks and get licensed
VLT's have to do nothing
Treasure Bay provides a secure, safe environment, where proper ID is required for admittance
VLT's provide nothing and require nothing
Treasure Bay is regulated by a commission as to be fair to the taxpayers and the citizens
VLT's are regulated by nothing
Treasure Bay adds to the Tourism experience
VLT's add nothing
What do VLT's bring to St. Lucia?
NOTHING!
This government is a disgrace.
