St Lucians Say,”No VAT In September”

Anonymous said...: First of all Kenny did a Tony when you consider his vehement antagonism to VAT while in Opposition.
St. Lucians because we have lost our moral Christian base do not find anything wrong with someone doing such an about face on such an important issue.

He is a scamp whose word cannot be trusted.

Kenny Anthony had to implement the Value Added Tax as a matter of urgency. His only methodology in governance is to TAX, BORROW and SPEND like a drunken sailor. So he cares not if VAT will not be implemented properly in Sept 2012 just as long as he has an excuse to spend and spend without any accountability.

He never once as Chairman called a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee during his tenure for 5 years.

His Administration still has not manfully accounted for the Rochamel millions, the road cost overun millions as described by the Commission of Enquiry.

And St. Lucians just absorb his incompetence and we will be feeling the full bad effects for years to come. Watch and see.

Betta Dazs Ahed said...: we all knew VAT was coming ... it would have been implement in april 2012 if uwp retained as the winning party.. perhaps uwp gov if they had won might have postponed VAT for further months or a yr later in 2013 WHO KNOWS..
BUT THE FACT REMAINS VAT IS HERE AND WE JUST HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT THATS IT...

no amount of bickering will change its implementation or even if its postponed VAT will increase costs of goods & services.. even if we were in BETTER DAYS or yrs before the RECESSION or other OIL crisis.. In the best of times VAT will still increase the COST OF LIVING IN ANY COUNTRY ..primarily becaues of GREEDY MERCHANTS and small businesses.. MEN are inherently selfish & greedy.. they would increase their goods NO MATTER WHAT the condition of a country is in economically whether we were riding HIGH on super GDP GROWTH..

Betta Dazs Ahed said...: one more point if i may : VAT implementation is also a political move IRONICALLY speaking ... because NO GOV will implement VAT a yr before elections.. so DR kenny had to do so early for 2 reasons in my view ... early implementation of VAT will soon be a forgotten memory b4 the next general elections in 2016.. and i think VAT revenues can fulfill alot of what SLP plans to accomplish as regards CAPITAL WORKS and SOCIAL PROGRAMMES

for the benefit of their political policies that is tied in with their SLP-MANIFESTO PROMISES... they need a greater filtering machinery to get as much as the gov can from local businesses and tax payers disposable incomes & property taxes etc.... to complete projects of all kinds b4 2016 & VAT helps to accomplish those things even if the gov gets GRANTS & LOANS..

Anonymous said...: VAT frightens everyone, however the tax system her is flawed; most people manage to get out of paying personal tax, these are the people you should be annoyed with as they are getting rich on the backs of the poor. I am aware of people who have several vehicles, houses rented, and boast they don't pay tax. How can you have a fair health system if people who can don't pay, more than that they don't care.
