Anonymous at 6:23pm, you are spot on. It us us St Lucian who created this problem for ourselves, not the Canadian goverment. Other islands in the caribbean with predominantly black populations such as Antigua and Barbados, for example still enjoy the no visa previlage.
Was high bloody time. To many bush monkeys going to the people’s country displaying their bush attitudes. Thank god and i hope their make it difficult to earn those visas.
I will not go as far as referring to anybody as a “bush monkey” but I will certainly agree with you that the negative attitudes being displayed by certain St Lucians living in Canada (most of the illegal ones) is indeed shameful. On a recent visit to Canada I attended a St Lucian function, based on what I saw and experienced I was convinced that most of the St Lucians living in Canada were the most ill-mannered, ignorant, and indiscipline of St Lucian people.
@#1, Asians and Caucasians follow the rule of the law in Canada and migrate there for self improvement and development. St Lucians, on the other hands, migrate to Canada, on false pretense. When the get to Canada, unlike those two groups you mentioned, they prefer to break every rule, get into drugs, be thugs, and more over get into criminal activities. Your question should have being directed at our government, not the other way around.
The Canadians did not mention criminal activity by Saint Lucians as the reasons for its action. The reasons they said are unreliability of Saint Lucian travel documents and the unacceptably high number of asylum seekers. So why are we we quick to blame negative attitudes etc of St. Lucians living in Canada? Why don't we focus instead on the fact that both past and and current administrations knew of the concerns of the Canadians and did nothing about it? Why don't we focus on the fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs who is traipsing all over the globe and who at the time of the action, was leading an SLP delegation to China to rub shoulders with the oppressive undemocratic regime there, knew that visa restrictions would have been imposed by the Canadians and said nothing about it? Saint Lucians traveling to Canada had to find out on the same day of their travel that they would have to apply for temporary visas on arriving at the airport in Canada, when their Government knew all along this would happen. Why don't we reflect on the fact that if the Canadians have a problem with the security of our passports, that other countries like the UK might have similar concerns? The real issue here is not the behaviour of Saint Lucians in Canada but the behaviour of our Government, past and present.
Although both the past and present government needs to take some blame for the present situation, we should always address the problem from its roots. In other words, the St Lucians who provided the Canadian government with false documents and those who made the false refugee claims are the main reasons for our demise. While the government could have been more effective and cooperative with the Canadian government in alerting them about those people who were deported and returned to Canada having changed their names, there is little any government can do when it comes to the St Lucians who legally travelled to Canada, overstayed, and then applied for refugee status. We need to understand that the current situation affects all of us St Lucians irrespective of our political affiliation. St Lucia relations with China or any other country had nothing to do with our visa restriction so we should focus on what did. Visa restrictions were not imposed on us because our ministers were travelling to other countries or as you put it “…traipsing all over the globe…” let’s deal with the facts and leave the irrelevant and unnecessary comments for some other forum when they might be appropriate.
The Gorvenment of Canada was in love with St.Lucia but our greed and abusive ways cost us big time. The lies the refugee status was excessive since when is men kicking our arses all over and cannot defend ourselves look we are even killing our husbands now. Since when St.Lucia is consume with carpet munchers and big bull dykes? Please a Country with less than two hundred thousand people I pity you all now the Canadian government has their fingers up you all arses deal with it blame you all selves. But wait... how come Mr Anonymous doesnt seem to have an answer for Why the Colonizers of canada didn't remain in Europe and develop their own country and leave the Native Indians to develop theirs (CANADAAAA).? Anonymous.. wha happen? You eh smart, bright, civilzed, mordern and intellectual again?

Two years ago, in Canada, there was a brutal beating of an old Asian man and his wife who owned a pawn shop, the man refused to open the vault and it cost him his life, then they beat the old lady to inches of her life. The gang, a group of young Looshans, 3 got arrested but one escaped to St. Lucia but wal killed at Bexon later on. They are in Canada playing "bad boys" and that is a big part of the problem, but no goverment will say that about another goverment peoples.
Anonymous at 3:38am I agree with you. I honestly believe all these things contributed to the visa requirements even if they were not mentioned in the report. Recently the Canadian authorities were upset that an alleged St Lucian murderer was not sent back to Canada to answer the charges made against him. I think the incident you spoke about was blamed on group of St Lucian crimals called the "pump gang"
Let me know if one of u Lucian dudes need Permanent Residence status, one condition though, im a do it for ur girl while im F#$#% you on da DL for all the time the papers are in progress and when she gets it she will take care of you. DEAL OR NO DEAL? -HOMOTHUG, ATL
Ajay, my comments have nothing to do with politics. My comments are about GOVERNMENT. Saint Lucians were caught by surprise by the announcement from the Canadians. Our Government (either the Prime Minister or the Minister of Foreign Affairs) should have informed the country this was coming. Nobody did. The Minister of Foreign Affairs was at the time on a trip to China as second deputy leader of the SLP, while Saint Lucians were finding out through a press release that they would need visas to enter Canada. The Canadians said the affected Governments were told beforehand about the decision. So why were Saint Lucians not told beforehand? I don't care where the second deputy leader of the SLP goes. I care that we were not warned by him or his PS that the Canadians now want us to apply for visas to enter thier country. If you can't see there's something wrong here, then something is wrong with your way of thinking.
Before something goes wrong, you people are so quick to blame the government. When the Minister travels from point A to point B he isn't going on a holiday, he is going to do his work, so why don't u shut up, and who are you to know he knew about that. All you do is come to your own conclusions. It was high time that happen. To many country bookies going to the people's country to shoot shate.
Anonymous at 7:33am, I would first like to apologize if I misunderstood what you were saying. My concern is that we seem to be placing greater attention about what the past or present government did not do instead of what really caused us St Lucians to be in this situation. I am not prepared to make statements on issues that I have no facts or supporting evidence. However, I will agree with you that the St Lucia Government should have informed St Lucians of the situation if they had prior knowledge. Having said this, it is my understanding that the present government was told that visa restrictions will be placed on St Lucians. Now this is totally different from the British visa situation where the government was given notice that if certain steps were not taken a visa restriction would be imposed. It is my understanding that in the case of the Canadian visa situation an opportunity to address the concerns of the Canadian Government was not an option for this present government since a decision had already been made and the process was near completion. Irrespective, I agree we should have been told that as of September we would need visa to travel to Canada by our government.
It was about time that the Canadian government wake up from their sleep and did something about those St.Lucians that are coming up and apply for refugee status. All the ones that are claiming refugee status should be deported back to St Lucia. I am a St Lucian, and I think it is wrong for St Lucian to come to Canada illegally and claim refugee status, while tax payers are paying for them to receive social assistance.
I expect that St-Lucia is in the process of drafting their own Visa requirement for Canadians.
This is the first time visiting this post, and reading through some of the comments, I was disappointed to read such name calling as Bush-Monkey. Especially from someone who first go is with their sister.
Are you nuts? St Lucia drafting visa requirement for Canadians? To who's benefit? We are practically begging Canadians to vist our island, but you come on this media and make such rediculous statements.
Kenny called Taiwan, China listened, but Canada drops the hammer! http://www.caribbeannewsnow.com//stlucia.php?news_id=12646&start=0&category_id=20 -------------- It took Dr Vaughan Lewis and friends nine months to convey an opinion any first year student in International relations could have rendered, and to undertake a Foreign Policy Review; at an undisclosed fee; plus disbursements, compliments of the people of Saint Lucia. But somehow, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, (CIC) caught the government of Saint Lucia and the foreign policy advisor napping. As the saying goes; The Spirit of St Lucia -- Bounty Rum -- there goes transparency and accountability.
Well, it is real; Saint Lucia has maintained diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but will vote at the UN with China, and will rejuvenate a political “fraternal alliance” with China on behalf of the Saint Lucia Labour Party, SLP. Is this a new form of democracy or a rehash version of communism?
But Canada, the great white north, is having none of that “241” pizza-like advertisement served in red tainted portions. Saint Lucia wasn’t listening and did not pay attention to the diplomatic communications. That was simply sloppy foreign relations intelligence.
And now, the dimensioning of the Saint Lucia consulate in Toronto means it is just another foreign office at the expense of local taxpayers with no influence. Will the consulate in Toronto continue will plans to increase staff and move to a new location in a trendy part of Town? Maybe, London, England, could be next to demand visas for Saint Lucians.
Now that Canada has asked them for visa they will try to see if they could go London. If they believe the Brits are the Canadians they kept lying to I will be sorry for them.
Anonymous @ September 15, 2012 1:57 PM. Your comment shows your ignorance. You, your family or friends are probably one of those who have filed false claims for asylum. St.Lucians created this situation, the Government of St.Lucia was fully aware of it. Why else would the new Consul General have made such comments?
I am a St Lucian living in Canada. I truly hope that the government of Canada deport all St Lucian refugees back to St Lucia. There is no situation in St Lucia for people to be claiming refugee status. All of them were able to afford the cost to travel to Canada, so life could not have been that bad in St Lucia. If they need to come to Canada they should try the legal way. I hope that they are saving my tax money they are receiving on social assistance, for when their deportation day comes.

All these St Lucians who made the false claims and provided the Canadian goverment with fraudulent documents are the ones to blame for this situation.
