Yes, the SLP did the right thing by remaining with China. But I think a lot of St Lucians are interested in knowing what was done with the money given by Chu.
The only difference is that one mainly speaks Mandarin, whereas the other, mainly Cantoese. They both treat minority populations with high disrespect. Corruption is a given and accepted way of doing business in those countries.
In Mainland China especially, when your enemies want to get rid of you, they highlight what you do, the regional bosses press charges, and chances are you will get executed.

The money laundering washed the malfeasnce and the money now looks like 'clean' real estate.
