That was as tasteless and as classless a speech as has ever been delivered by a sitting Prime Minister anywhere in the Caribbean. First of all, the PM's anger was hard to understand. The impression one got from the tone and content of the PM's speech was that somebody put a gun to his head to ensure Saint Lucia retained diplomatic relations with Taiwan, against its will. If Taiwan did so many bad things (and Taiwan did in fact do some bad things) why stay with Taiwan? Why not shift to China? Why stay with Taiwan and then tell Taiwan how unhappy you are about all the bad things they've done? Why force a new Ambassador to hear anew all your gripes with Tom Chou (who by the way was rewarded by his Government for all his travails in Saint Lucia with a big job?) Why complain that the contribution pledged by Taiwan to Saint Lucia's development comes nowhere near what Taiwan gave to King and his cohorts? Couldn't Saint Lucia push for more money from Taiwan?
The Prime Minster must know that we know he's pissing in our eyes. The Prime Minister must know that we know he really had NO choice but to stay with Taiwan. Why? BECAUSE AS FAR AS CHINA IS CONCERNED ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH TAIWAN MEANS FAR MORE TO IT THAN ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH SAINT LUCIA.
So all that crap about maintaining fraternal party relations with China's one and only communist party is really all that China was prepared to offer. All that nonsense of not jumping from one coutry to another is really nonsense. Sir John was prepared to do it. So why not you Mr. PM, especially with all those beefs you have against Taiwan?
This is one Saint Lucian that has seen right your your classless speech. Wheel and come again, Mr PM.

So we spent money on a committee to tell us to remain with Taiwan. Now we're spending money (how much?) on this forensics guy to tell us that the UWP did whatever they wanted to with the money from the Taiwanese. Seems like this money can be better spent elsewhere. Maybe to employ a few people.

We need to create trust and bring back honesty and financial integrity to government and to ALL the operations the governing elite.
Lending institutions like the IMF will penalize us with higher rates of interest on loans, or borrowed funds if our financials dealings in the country reeks of dishonesty.
There's a high social and financial price to be paid for weaving shady characters into government's operations.

I have supported SLP all of my life but I am not sure if this regime under the leadership of Dr. Anthony is the best for this country or for our party the SLP. I was without words, so disappointed with the speech given by our PM on the Taiwanese and China diplomatic relations. I have seen Dr. Anthony in better times...this speech definitely placed him in a highly negative position among the people of Saint Lucia.

Normally, eulogies are padded with half-truths, untruths and damn lies.
Culturally, it is not the norm to speak bad about the dead especially at the funeral. You just don't do that sort of thing in public.
Kenny must have felt sorry, with other UWI lecturers raising eyebrows about the legal trouble with another colleague at UWI.
There is Ralph Gonsalves in St. Vincent as another contemporary with a similar history.
The less than valuable advice on foreign affairs in terms of the value for money spent on Lewis, may have been aimed to settle the legal problems between them.
It is noteworthy, that after having joined the SLP, Lewis has never sought, at least actively, any political office.

Every living politician and government employee should be made financially accountable by having each one to declare his or her assets and the method by which they were attained. How many would come clean? How many would have achieved by the sweat of thy brow? My suspicion is, the defensive ones are guilty as sin.
Instead of the toothless Integrity Commission like the Octogenarian politician who engineered the ascent and dominance of mediocrity in our political and social culture, we need a parliamentary committee on integrity. It would have full judicial powers under a supreme court judge to adjudicate reasonable suspicion of:
1. The misappropriation of public funds
2. Subpoena powers to call on anyone to give complete and truthful evidence, under oath, or face purjury charges, regarding malfeasance, the illegal awards of government contracts, and charges of conflicts of interest.
A forensic probe is just a half-measure to curb the borbolist way of life of politicians in Saint Lucia.
No more wasteful spending on commissions of inquiry are needed. Those found guilty need to do jail time and not just be debarred from running for office in the future.
As we have seen with one of the dishonourable and disgusting members of the UWP, once a crook always a crook.
No other party has ever taken Saint Lucia so low, as that loathsome group of UWP slimeballs and scumbags we had for a government.
