Mr./Ms. Voice Correspondent, like the bluffer Victor Marquis (who has recently, dishonestly, been talking about the great proof-reading traditions at The Voice), you need to get your act together. An average of 1.35 million dollars a year, over 33 years of American Eagle operations in St. Lucia, comes nowhere near 4.5 billion dollars, unless of course this is yet another typo, or if you have no idea that a billion dollars is 1000 million dollars. At an average of 1.35 million dollars per year, the 33 years would have injected an approximate 44.6 million paltry dollars into the St. Lucian economy, and only if that sum was indeed injected wholly into our economy. Of course it seems clear that you wanted to refer to 135 million dollars per year, over 33 years. Let's do justice to our crap talk about proper proof reading at The Voice, or let's say goodbye to the Editor, whose responsibility it is to provide accurate information to the supporters of The Voice newspaper. Kindly clear the air for your readers. VAUGHAN L.
Soon all the others will follow we better start looking for some old Hydrofoil boats to transport visitors too and from around the caribbean. Hellooo is anyone there?
this should be a clue for the under utilized airport at VIGIE or GFL.C as its called now.. to travel to the states from vigie is only possible through liat. either liat still has a direct flight to puerto rico or one stop over in transit to antigua.. the last option is to travel on liat to barbados then catch a big plane to the states..
Do you believe liat will ever appoint 2 additional flights directly to puerto rico like how american eagle did?? lets wait and see... VIGIE in my view should be closed down period..let s built the new terminal in vfort.
the gov should sell much of the lands at vigie at high prices so they can recoup the lost of the airport at vigie.. Vigie is a goldmine when it comes to real estate.. and selling lands there would far outnumber in dollars than what vigie has been making in the last 3 decades..thats a fact
Think Tank, you are right on target. The fact that Vigie (GFLC) Airport still sits there does not allow Lucians to develop Hewanorra into the massive hub that it can be, to provide good competitive as well as complementary support to the Barbados hub. Why should Lucia continue to support a retarded Hewanorra airport and a semi-retarded Vigie, when it can put the semi-retard to RIP and develop the retarded baby into a gigantic Hewanorra? I believe that the SLP should take on that challenge. Put the Aviation Economists and Finance experts to work on this idea, and let's move forward. Over to you Mr. Foreign Minister.
To anonymous @ September 14, 2012 12:28 PM: Do you understand the definition of HUB in Airline Operations and Aviation terminology? You keep saying make Hewanorra a HUB. A HUB to feed into or feed from what? Please follow the link below and read in the voice comment section that I posted on December 30, 2011 12:37 and December 30, 2011 6:56 PM anonymous, During the Red Jet attempt scam on the St. Lucian government and its people. http://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7357275718341686228&postID=7500641968188539626
You keep talking of a HUB at Hewanorra. Due you know the definition of HUB in Airline operations terminology? So let’s say your imagination let you create a HUB at that airport, what will be your inbound and outbound markets?
Not to let the cat out of the bag. I am currently a B-772 Capt. For a major carrier with over 18,000 hrs in various types from DC-8-63 B-727-200, B-737 and B-767 series aircrafts.
In the late 90s we did a study on the possibility of starting a St. Lucian base international air carrier operating out of Hewanorra with non-stop flying to five major cities in North America to include Toronto Canada, and six cities in Europe. At the time we had secure solid financial commitments from two wealthy investors in Europe and the operational plan seems feasible. However when we look at feeding passengers into Hewanorra from the neighboring islands such as Barbados, St. Vincent, Grenada, and even as far way as Dominica and Antigua, we concluded this was not viable due to load factor /capacity and available equipment for this type of operation. There are no quick remedies to take care of your migraine headache of feeding into Hewanorra from the neighboring islands, since every prop aircraft avail on the market is either too small or too big for such an operation. You can trust me on that one, if it was that easy, LIAT, America Airlines, Caribbean airlines (CAL) and others would have married Hewanorra a long time ago.
"... VIGIE in my view should be closed down period..let s built the new terminal in vfort." ------------------------------------------------------------------- With 85% of the hotels and guest houses in the north, you are advocating such stupidity; thank God you are not the Prime Minister.
FYI: American Airlines is currently going through bankruptcy proceedings in the US. The company is also looking for a partner. The stack reality is that, economies cannot depend on tourims alone.Diversify!

Will the last person to leave St Lucia kindly turn out the lights?
We can call this the 'Lorne' effect.
If the St.Lucia route was profitable, why would they leave?
