If that chap was up to the task, he would have delved much further into the fisheries research vessel aspect of the technical assistance programme. It appears to have the most potential for the disruptive innovation , that is so much needed, in terms of advancement and innovation in the fisheries sector.

You may be Moses or John the Baptist but this is not a holy alliance.

The Japanese will offer you a Dime to grab millions of dollars of fish, laugh at you go home and boast how easy it was to take candy from dem babies.

When will our politicians ever learn to stop begging other countries for a cheap handout.

Its time you learn to get up from your lazy fat azz and catch fish like the Japanese, make some money and employ some young men. Is that too hard?

Saint Lucia is always struggling with cognitive dissonance in relation to the Japanese and the harvesting of whales issues. We may for example believe that harvesting is seriously eroding the capacity for sustainability. However, our behaviour of diplomatically supporting the Japanese in exchange for aid, pits us against the environmentalists.

As tension grow between Japan and China, both countries are looking for allies. We have a strong hand; don't play it foolishly!

Hand outs from China, Taewon, Japan, and who else, makes us look like the worse beggars in the world.

Are better days ahead???

Second writer at 2:30PM, I couldn't agree more. All our so-called benefactors are only using St Lucia mercilessly: simply robbing all these little and struggling islands of their extremely finite resources. ALL of them act worst than gift-bringing Greeks.
Shouldn't, a fair deal involve a DECENT percentage of the Japanese fishers' profits remitted directly back to the island; and continually overseen by international tribunals? What has happened to the principle of altruism these days?

Additionally, a company like Sandals - a West Indian company, no less, which over the years has made billions of EC$ in profits off their Lucian hotels - proudly announced recently that it has given $8.3 million to St Lucia via its Sandals Foundation. Shouldn't this figure be more like $83 million?

Compton is guilty of extending corporate welfare to Sandals. Imagine he took this country into debt to join the islet to the mainland. Then with Saint Lucians paying the loan for the priceless real estate then created, lacking business acumen, Compton collected a one-time payment from his pal.

Smart-ass Compton sold the patrimony out of the hands of Saint Lucians into perpetuity. What a classic piece of national economic prostitution!

Saint Lucians were left holding the bag for the loan repayment. Yet, nowhere in the foreseeable future, will this piece of priceless real estate that we are chased off continuously, ever fall back into the hands of born and bred Saint Lucians. Stupidly, Saint Lucians have foreigners and our money beating our tails all de time.

Handshake for another handout. The other hand could well have had a cap or a begging bowl.

If that was such a great deal, how come Jn Baptiste's bordy language is indicating that he has been shafted?...the Japanese guy is the dominating image in the picture!
