Any television station that gives voice to criminal elements against the state should be shut down.

The fact that criminals are of the belief that they can openly threaten the police is a sign that the police and the government are not doing their part in enforcing the law. The matter at hand is not HTS for broadcasting it...it should be on the government and police who are not doing their job where crime is concerned. They need to step up and do something about the crime rate in St. lucia and stop bitching about what HTS did. HTS has done St. Lucia a favor by letting us know exactly the state of affairs are where criminals and the law are concerned.

i cannot understand that, everyday you will hear the police begging the public to provide them with information about criminals or crime in the country. I find this to be very strange because St Lucia is very small and everybody in Lucia including all the police known all the criminals, drugs dealers etc in the country, so they does not need any information from the public, they know everything. As far i am concerned there is a policeman or two living in EVERY COMMUNITY. These police play as if once they join the force, they are removed from the community and they live in another sphere, now they cannot see anything happening around them, people must now tell them.
The same information they they are begging for, is now provided to them directly, publicly by the criminals, so everybody know they know now. Now they are complaining, even the so called minister is complaining. I thought they would have embrace that information, and go ahead to take drastic actions against the criminals, instead they treated the poor reporter as the criminal, trying to have him loss his job. Now the criminals are laughing as usual. Boy, boy, boy when will we learn in St Lucia.

Yeah right! Let's blame the police. They need our support at this time. It is our country and I don't care what poltiical flag you are flying. Let us save St Lucia, kick crime in the butt, and to heck with politics.

I say close down HTS as the person before said. No time to play Mr. Nice Guy with dangeroius criminals.

Comment " one" although we all have the right to express our opinion but we must think a little before we write. Do you think there will be any good in shutting down a TV station in St Lucia, in these heard times, think of the loss of jobs, the service it provide etc? Do you think there was any good in terms of fighting crime in St Lucia, with the criminals saying publicly what they have in mind to do? Look at the situation carefully, and do some deep soul thinking, leave all your emotions aside. Now that the whole public and the police hear for themselves what they had already known but as a "hear say", now this is no longer a hear say, it is now evidence. So now the police can do their work without fear or favour, They could just meet these criminals and search them at randome,They could now enter these place to search for the guns and the public will not call foul, but will have no choice but to support the police.
All the people including the minister and the police commissioner who compline are not serious about fighting crime. Instead of concentrating and making a big show about the TV clip they should channel their energies in fighting these criminals. Use the clip as an advantage, which is what it is.

Anonymous said...

When did i blame the police? You must learn to read and understand before youput politics into it .Do you believe by showing the clip on TV is not supporting the police? I believe this clip should be a big help to the police.

I believe it is time for the prime minister to step in and comment on the current crime situation in our small island. Whether he has to address the public or the police force but something needs to be done. St Lucia is a touristic island and these crimes are aired over the internet and television stations and that is very scary. People will not feel comfortable coming to our lovely island anymore if that is the case and when that happens, there will be no work for taxi drivers, vendors etc. It is time to put a stop to those crimes. The police also need to play their part and focus on the criminals and find them. This is too small of an island for all these crimes. On the other hand, civilians need to take pride in themselves and their country and stop committing all these crimes. St Lucians please for the better of yourself and your children, please go to school, get some education and find a job. There are lots of things that can be created from the natural materials we have. Please stop the crimes.

The prime minister needs to start finding ways and means to create more jobs for those people who idle around. I believe if that is addressed, then there will be less crimes. In all criminal cases, it is the youth involved so my encouragement is for the Minister of Eduction to promote and encourage young people to go to school. In that way it will create a place for them to be and at the same time gain some knowledge in order to get a job. There should also be talks in the schools where the police department explain to the schoolers the measures they should take to avoid criminal acts and avoid them.

That is a good point you made about school, i remembered when a school place was provided for each child, the dum and not so bright present minister of education, just to gain cheap political points, went on air discouraging the the students who did not do to well at common entrance from attending school, saying they will keep other brighter children back ete, etc. These people especially those in high positions must NOT discourage and make students feel inferior to about attending school. That will make then feel as if hey are not welcomed and will cause them to stay away, and that is where is where the crime begins.
I must take the experience of myself i did not do to well at secondary school, but i went through the system and because our education system is so high in St Lucia, I able to study in the U.S and graduate with honors. My cousin who also did not do so well also was able to do his MASTERS in England straight from high school.

Congratulations to you and your cousin. This again is a good example of the places schooling can take you. It broadens your mind and make you do better thing especially for yourself and earn money and by earning money, you will not have to try and think of a way to rob someone's purse or sell drugs resulting in killings. That is what we need in St Lucia. Minister of Education, Please wake up.

run them crazy thugs out of town. Officers you got my support 100%.

We are quick to say shut down places of employment, but in the same breath we say we love St Lucia and we want to stop crime. When we deprive people of their jobs, what are we sending them to do, i suppose is to join the criminal element. Please my people, let us think before we write.

Guy Meyers, Richard Frederick, those who claim to be the ones responsible for the handling of the Home Affairs, Internal Security, Peace and Love and Social Transformation. How can we as citizens depend on you for internal security when you seem to have had no idea how the ghetto man feet. I am not really in support of the excuses that they make, but at the same time i guess, every man is an individual, a person, God's child.
But what really does puzzle me, are you upset because the guys voiced their opinion on an open forum....or are you upset because it made the whole region and wider world aware of how WEAK and PATHETIC YOU GUYS ARE in mainting control within you country.
Aren't the guys the same persons from the same area who were supposed to be benefitting from the peace and love initiative. CAPS??.....what's really going on. I really hope you guys lose the next election. I really thought after one year things would have began to settle...nope..it hasn't happened to date. I do not think you guys need a second chance. GET OUT!!!...Let someone else take the blame..not you..I had faith in you guys, now I feel disappointed, resentful and humiliated. GET OUT!...Please for the sake of the supporters of the United Workers Party, the persons who believe in the prosperity of St. Lucian citizens.
MARTIN LUTHER KING and all those who fought for freedom, equality and justice are today turning and twisting in their graves because of you!....
What was the point of their struggle if we have people like you continuously forming the fool with the nation.
Seriously GET OUT!....I am sick and tired of what's going on. There is always some nonsense...If is not something serious to bombard St. Lucians like "not being able to pay civil servants" it's probably Keith Mondesir or something.
And for heavens sake....the health of a nation is what counts. Without that our society is doomed. Stop focusing on all the crap that you do and start focusing on the Health on our nation. I am disgusted to see all the "jombies" on the streets nowadays. Jomie dogs, Jombies...RICHARRRRRRDDDDDD FREDERICK!!!!!....SOCIAL tRANSFORMATION...NOT SOCIAL DEFORMATION!!!!!!!!...DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.....Keith Golden Hope....Turning point...make these institutions a priority. We need a health nation.......and for heaven sake if you cannot get those done..START BUILDING ANOTHER PRISON OR START EXPANDING ON THE ALREADY OVERCROWDED BORDELAIS!

How about city folks forming patrolling groups?

How about citizens informing police anonimously about gang activity?

Garbage must be swept out from our streets, forever.

When threats were publicised on global televisions by Bin Laden, there wasnt any uproar or the government being ready to hold major stations such as CNN and NBC etc for this transimition. Instead it was used as a warning for the country to implore tighter security measures as they were put on alert. This is the same way we should use this to our advantage and protect our homes and livelhood. The police officials instead of targeting HTS for the broadcast should be in co-operation with them to obtain further information to seek out those thugs who are out to run this country.

In regards, I would like to mention the double standards that are being implored by the media and the public:
1) We all want the media to broadcast truthful facts. We express disgust at a certain station when we feel they are relating political stories in favoritism to one party but others will find this appealing and will still look at it as being fair. Fact: we should face the REALITY being reflected to us by HTS - THUGS are no longer afraid of the police. We should wake up and realize the fact. No longer are they running away and seeking refuge when cops come in their vacinity. Instead they are ready to fight toe to toe with these guys. It would have been a different setting and termed criminal if HTS endorsed those messaged, however it wasnt, it was only a portrayal of reality. WAKE UP people and stop blaming and diverting your attention to the wrong people. While we sit and argue and express disgust with HTS, there are the thugs who are attempting their next move on defenseless citizens.

2) With regards to a different story but relates to double standards - we were all in an outcry when pics of the infamous easter accident were circulated across the globe. However, recently on two other local news media websites where the sotries of the "gundowned" teenagers. The pic was displayed with the uncovered body laying on the road with on lookers. Yet no one seemed to make a fuss or showed public outcry. Dont you think the family of this boy will see the pics and realize that this is the last image of their beloved one?

I saw fellow lucians, its time to face reality and stop accepting double standards. This attitude will forever plague us as a nation in moving foward.

How will closing down HTS curb crime in St Lucia?

Anonymous said...

closing down HTS will not deter crime in fact such an act would encourage another type of crime...that of freedom of speech!!
Actually the fact that the criminals went on TV and on radio provides the police with a lot of leads.

Anonymous said...

Both the government and the police chief who are making noise about HTS are not interested, or have no clue in curbing crime in St Lucia. That is very logical any child could see that. They are only looking for the easy way out, fire the poor reporter, sue HTS, and the island still grapples with the crime situation. Some body made a good point about Ben Laden, which i agree with. Ben Laden from time to time comes on U.S. TV to make his threats against the U.S. i never hear the U.S. close down any TV station or send any reporter on leave. They use these threats to their advantage,to know how to react, so what is wrong with us in St Lucia?

Send that dummy home and bring Hermangil Francis to head the police force, so that he could deal with these called criminals we have in St Lucia, ministers and all.

Anonymous said...

I am serious the last post.

Coops said...

Ragis & Guy Mayers are the ones to be blamed.

Why the media... the media is in place to Inform,Educate & Entertain the nation and so this is what they were doing on the day in question.

Ragis needs to "Vacate" the seat he is occupying at headquaters, and let someone with qualification step in.

I Thank You!

Anonymous said...

Hermangil? That Idiot ! Never! Whether it is a UWP or SLP government, Hermangil Francis should have no place in St Lucia's force.

Go ask around and you will discover the facts about Hermangil.

Thank you Mr. Regis for a job well done. You have my support and that of countless of other St Lucians.

Press on brother.

There are fundamental mindsets, customs, attitudes that we have as St. Lucians that makes most of the posts above redundant. Just like the African Americans in the USA whose own mindsets are destined and do keep them down , we in St. Lucia approach most of life’s issues with positions that are guaranteed to keep us down.

We refuse to objectively view the criteria we use to choose politicians to represent us in Parliament.

We refuse to address social issues with a mindset to change the things that have kept us down from Independence in 1979. In fact we even support positions that have year in and year out destroyed our families, communities and state.

Our political, business and religeous leaders have simply become the new “Massa” of the plantation system exploiting the system for their selfish ends with no thought as to the progress of our democracy.

Our people mindlessly follow the American liberal, Hollywood mindset with no thought as to where we are going and how we intend to get there. Where can you find serious discussions on the issues of internal security of our State ?

We base our reactionary decisions with regard to the police force based on foolish unproductive positions of “who we like” or whether or not we want foreigner or locals to run the police force irrespective of whether or not the individuals have the capacity to do anything about law and order.

We supports Governments that “borrow recklessly and spend foolishly” with no prudent view as to what this will do to our economic health with the head in the sand attitude that somewhere down the line it will take care of itself.

I could go on and on.

The reality is that most of our Caribbean Nations are failed states closer to Haiti than Miami. Our institutions have become gutted and useless. Our public service debt increases on an annual basis, our public service is bloated with less and less to show each year for massive expenditure, our Police Force is less and less effective each year.

Audit Departments and Public Account Committees annually do nothing to address the problems we face with value for money in Government Expenditure.

Even if tomorrow St. Lucians looked the truth in the face there are too many people with their own personal agendas who would shoot this "truth" down as it does not support their own averice.
Is there a solution or solutions.

The answer is yes but our whole mindset has to change for us to see what is possible for a wonderful country like St. Lucia. Until that happens do not look for any changes over the next 20 years.
We will continue to run up debt, we will continue to wallow in drugs and gun violence, we will continue to watch our families being destroyed, we wil continue to go "one step forward, two steps backward".

LABOURITES DON'T WORRY. CHILL OUT HAVE A BEER. WE DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING. WE ALREADY WIN TH NEXT ELECTIONS.

What are the facts about Hermangil? I want to know. What i know about him is that he is not perfect as all of us, if we can have an ex con as a minister, them we can have a young bright man like Hernmangil to head the force. I know he is very intelligent, he LOVE women, he very fair when it comes to his work, he commands a lot of respect among the police force and the criminals. He can walk into ANY so called Ghetto alone in St Lucia and arrest anyone. He will never be in that petty roro with a reporter as Regis is now doing, he will go after the criminals instead. What i DONOT know is if he is involved in the drug trade.
You have it wrong, not laborites but we lucians just have to be patient and wait when the time came, to take out these incompetent government on our backs.
