Josie is so wrong when he says that in the early years of St. Mary's College entry only required an "entrance examination." He failed to point out that to attend St. Mary's parents had to pay school fees and also buy expensive books for their children. That eliminated many smart kids simply because their parents could not affort to send them to that school. Added to that there was much bias in choosing the kids from more affulent families even though some of them fell below the academic level need to attended the school. Let's just say that if your parents were of the upper class you seat at St. Mary's was guaranteed. The officials were also bias in handing out the "so call" Castries Town Board scholarships. That was enough to negate many young men from getting a secondary education in St Lucia at that time. I remember how tough it was for my parents to come up with school fees and book for my brother and myself.
