Having recently returned to England after living in St Lucia for several years, I think that maybe one of the reasons that Britain is taking less interest in its former colonies might be that they are taking less interest in Britain.

It was very noticeable - and disappointing - to me, as an Englishwoman, that St Lucia, never an American possession, is far more oriented towards America than towards Britain, in language, in customs, in its cuisine.
