Micah, do your readers a big favor. Read over your report one more time and delete the first paragraph which makes your report look crappy. The story/report now comes alive, believable and captivating. Please stop insulting readers!

when these people know or suspect their offsprings are in the drug trafficking business they should be the first ones to ask the police for help. but they don't. instead most of the times they hide it. it gets worse and worse. then it is too late. in the drug business, death is a simple way of life. and as they say, "somebody gotta pay." take a strong stand when your family, husband or children are doind the wrong thing.it can only get worst, if left unchecked.

WHO IS THIS IDIOT, WHO THINKS HE IS IN ANY POSITION TO INSTRUCT ANYONE ON WRITING SKILLS OR JOURNALISTIC TECHNIQUES? GET A LIFE YOU BLOODY IDIOT!

Anonymous #3 is correct and Anonymous #5 is the REAL idiot. The damn article is laced with errors, beginning with a near-eighty words lede. Micah should know better; unfortunately, however, he doesn't.

Damn fools! Leaving out the main issue to focus on the messenger instead of the message.

I am in between on this matter. Parents have lost the art of controlling their kids. Too many young people are berthing children when they themselves are barely making the age of teenager. Children are just making more children when their parents need training and guidance to become responsible and mature individuals.

But parents are in on the take from the drug trade. They love the things they can buy with their share of the take from the trade. The drug trade has become acceptable as a way to make a living. This has even got support and direction from people in the very Cabinet of St. Lucian government.

If you love your son or daughter who is in the drug trade so much and don't report this to the police, then you have to pay the price.

The person with the contract to kill him, her, or you sometimes may even come in from overseas and this can be as close as someone from the 'no man's land' and inaccessible hideout in St. Vincent. Not even the police from St. Vincent can get to that place.

If it is the hermaphrodite that has been killed, then she might get a break. St. Lucia's crime rate will fall.

Oh Lord we can be such hypocrites!!!! Those young boys generally don't bring in the drugs/guns!!! They are like the yard fowls.
Let's get rid of the heads/masterminds/barons/bulldogs!!!!
Let's stand against immoral, unethical and un-lawful behaviours from the top! And let us try to help poor and single mothers so children can remain in school and stop the cycle of poverty and immorality!!!

After reading Micah’s article, and the Armchair Anonymous’ “discussions” … I agree with all the discussions, except, I have NO IDEA where the “hermaphrodites” statement comes in.

[1] Sometime ago, I had a conversation with Micah about the grammar/readability content of some of his articles – for now, let us leave that right where it is. It is not entirely his fault. I hope his “editors/proofreaders” read these discussions and take your [and mine], criticisms into consideration. He has quite a few battles to fight with them. At least he brings forth his articles – even the “devil’s advocate” articles.

[2] To Anonymous #7 – while I somewhat agree with your entire discussion, please note that ships “berth” and humans “birth children”. Your discussion however, is spot on; but we should focus on BOTH the message AND the messenger. The messenger has the power of the word, and the word has the power of the message – tragically, Micah’s word power sucks. [Not his fault.]

As for Miss Morille and her plight – this article just brings to light, our inept police department, and also what seems to be her own “ignorance” in handling this matter. Ignorance in knowing exactly where she can get assistance to her plight – but because of her ignorance, the police themselves, in their own ignorance do not even SEEM to know WHERE to send her for help. By right, they SHOULD BE ASSISTING her; that is one of their obligations [serve and protect??].

Instead of us casting stones at Micah’s grammar – we should instead offer our assistance as to WHERE she can get recourse to her problem. WHOM can she face with her dilemma? I myself would like to know as well. At least she did something right, by going to the newspapers.

As for our police department … this instance just might be THE perfect opportunity in getting to the “boyo” of St Lucia’s gangland … Who knows … Miss Morille’s plight just might be the KEY to opening the gangland’s hideouts, leaders, lieutenants, informers, etc, etc. POLICE WAKE UP … MISS MORILLE NEEDS YOUR DETECTIVES TO WORK NOW …

The criminals are emboldened because we do not have competent policymakers in the areas of crime and social deviance. It is my hope that Mr. Mayers refrain from the unacceptable, reckless excuse that increases in crime is simply a perception in the minds of the citizenry. Much can be done to control crime if the right persons are placed in policy positions to effect the necessary changes needed to create a safer St. Lucia. Much is required in the areas of family strengthening, youth development, mentoring, civic involvement of youth, workforce development etc.

We simply can't afford to sit on the sidelines and complacently reiterate the reckless script that "nothing can be done". Trust the experts to know that much can be done to prevent and control crime; however, even the experts need the assistance of all relevant stakeholders (community, businesses, schools, churches government and law enforcement)to achieve significant reductions in crime and social deviance. We did it in one of the crime capital of the world (Washington,DC) and St. Lucia is no exception!!!

Micah cannot write, but perhaps his editor ought to have embellished his writing like he always does.
Nobody is an idiot for pointing out Micah's errors but he will be the biggest idiot no to take note. Another thing,
this is an opinion column, so how dare you refer to anyone as an idiot?
Why not take a good look at yourself in the mirror?

The persons who are stalking that poor frightened woman knows very well that no mother will be willing to give up her children so they will continue to threaten her and even hurt her.She ought to remember that she has other young children and she can do two things: Either come to some kind of understanding with her stalkers or get the hell out that area. If she can find her son then she could probably have an idea who is after him or her then she can give the police the information. One thing is for sure, she cannot depend on the police for protection particularly if they d not know who they are looking for. They just do not have the resources.

PM called upon to put aside his ego!

The political leader of the LPM is calling on Prime Minister King once again to put aside his ego and show leadership by galvanizing the resources and thinking of all St. Lucians and organizations to fight the scourge of rising crime in St. Lucia.

The Political Leader, Mr. Prudent, says that with the unprecedented level of homicides in St. Lucia, now at 45, the time has come for the Prime Minister and his government to rally the entire nation in the struggle to make this country once again a peaceful and safe place for all St. Lucians.

He says that in the aftermath of hurricane Tomas, the government and people of St Lucia have a great opportunity to rebuild, not only the physical infrastructure of our nation but also the spiritual pillars of a just and ethical society as well.

Mr. Prudent says that nothing short of a comprehensive approach in battling crime is needed now. The Prime Minister must be bold and courageous enough to do what is necessary and engage everyone in this struggle to fight crime since it had become quite clear that his government has failed miserable in managing lawlessness in St. Lucia.

Mr. Prudent says that while the creation of a task force is commendable, the same thinking and strategic approach should be used to fight crime. He calls on the government, once again, to set up a national consultation on crime that would include all individuals and organizations and all the social, economic and political thinkers and actors on the national stage. Mr. Prudent believes that everyone can contribute since crime affects us all.

Everyone should be
consulted, including youth organizations, the churches, teachers, doctors, nurses, farmers, business men and women, unions and taxi-drivers.

Mr. Prudent believes that the rebuilding of the infrastructure of St. Lucia should be done with a holistic and strategic view to reducing the level of crime and lawlessness in the country.

It makes little sense, he says, to rebuild the infrastructure of a nation and leave its people vulnerable to crime, chaos, disorder and unruliness as it was in the past.
