Dude, do you know anything about French people? Learn about French customs and you will understand Saint Lucians.

Whenever I visit St.Lucia for vacation I'm always frustrated. Everything moves in slow motion. The people are rude and as soon as you're rude back then their tunes change. But I agree with the other anonymous post. French people are not very cordial and remember we were seven times french and seven times british. Oh and by the way the british people are no angels either. They are just as pompous. So who cares just give them a dose of their own medicine

Now you understand what passes for customer service in St Lucia. And then we wonder why local businesses are doing so bad and so many persons losing their jobs.If you believe it is so bad with the fast food chains or other private businesses, wait till you go to any of the government ministries! St Lucia simply beautiful...where we are happy.

I am happy that I was not the only one who had such an experience. My experience took place in the Castries and Nothern areas, so I decided to stay down south on my last visit and I was treated as a king...lol. Thanks to the good people of the Southern region from Soufriere to Micoud, southern hospitality was at it's best. Thank you so much once again!!!

Blame it on our education system if not the home. Our schools have a big role to play in developing our people......they have failed and continue to fail to mold our young minds.

Not at all surprise. We have very poor customer service in St.Lucia. When one enters a business place or government office in St. Lucia, it's like you came in to beg for a favor. That's the mentality of a large majority of employees in St. Lucia. Even managers and supervisors display this negative attitude.

Oh Well!!! Really for a moment I was of the opinion that I was to fussy a customer when I visit St. Lucia. But it seems to me now that customer service there is really a problem. But can we really blame the workers. Have the private and public sector invest in the training of their workers to effectively and efficiently deliver at the work place? Then again how much is the take home pay to encourage them to perform? Its so much thing put together that contribute to this issue. Its like a calaloo.

While it is true that customer service stinks in our banks, civil service, fast food joints, retail outlets, etc, etc ... WE are the ones who could make it better, even if slightly.

Many a time, I have brought up those lazy, rude, inefficient "employees" with MY manners (not even with rudeness), by asking these questions (not all together, but taking into consideration the type of customer services meted out to me):
"Have we met before? Have I ever done anything to you?" their response is usually feeling ashamed, or a lame smile, no eye contact.
"Should I do a dance on the counter in order to get some attention?" their response is usually a rush to get my attention, with a smile, no eye contact.
"Am I in a parallel universe? I cannot see or hear anyone." That gets their attention, no eye contact.

It works for me; short of that, I ask to see their manager or supervisor - and I get proper customer care service.

But in a nutshell, St Lucian employees who deal with the public need some SERIOUS CUSTOMER CARE EDUCATION, as well as their employers and/or supervisors.

Over to you St Lucia Chamber of Commerce.

I was at a supermarket checkout and had to wait whilst the young lady finished her call on her mobile phone! To say I was flabbergasted was an understatement. I trained checkout staff in the UK and we were not allowed to carry our mobile phones onto the shop floor or even use them in the staff canteen as it is very intrusive on other people's break time. What these youngsters do not understand is that without customers, they would not have a job. It is not only in St Lucia that this attitude exists it is all over the Caribbean. Pity, because outside of shops people are lovely.

Yes, customer service is severely lacking in St. Lucia. When I visit the supermarket and ask a question, I am met with a grunt or some such response. Really, really awful. Nobody smiles.
I know people work long hours in St.Lucia, staff are badly paid. Hotels are charging FIRST WORLD PRICES, but pay their staff THIRD WORLD WAGES. The owners of these places are big fat cats, how do they think the other half can afford to live. Treat your fellow man properly, you can't take it with you. A tourist's view

Most people in the Islands have very poor CUSTOMER SERVICE",including St.Lucia.
How often you go into a business & as the writer said--no acknowledgement,no eye contact.
Customer service have absolutely nothing to do with French people,it has to do with taking pride in what you do,appreciate the business that keeps you working--regardless of the pay.
St.lucians complain too much ..make the most of what you have or what you do.
Stop being RUDE with an ATTITUDE that does not fit in society/ or in the work place anymore.

I blame management! She should have never been hired if she cannot do the job or maybe she skipped training!
