Why should the opposition have to pick someone from their side. I am sick and tired of people asking this non-sensical question. If you are asking this then you know nothing about politics and can contribute nothing meaningful to a discussion on it.
"Why should the opposition have to pick someone from their side"? First, the Constitution makes allowance for their involvement. Second, they should have had a conscience. Third, they, all members of the opposition, receive a monthly salary from taxpayers. They should have showed less desperation for power and don't waste my vote. They had my last vote in the last election.I don't vote for children!
There is a certain degree of hypocrisy that is permeating in St. Lucia and those who considered themselves intelligence refused to understand that there is a difference between “right and wrong”. It appears that St. Lucia has a lot of blind people, because most is refusing to see what is happening. The fact is, that the Prime Minister do not have control over his Cabinet of Ministers, and hence the reason, he was not in a position to come up with a Deputy speaker, governing means making hard choices and decisions, it is not a place for little children. The Prime Minster, need once and for all to show the St. Lucian populace that he is able to make hard decision and stop the “Child’s Play” that is going around as adult.
The bottom line is if Stephenson King had the gonads and leadership skills to pick someone from his Cabinet this whole drama with the UWP, SLP, Independents and the Speaker could have been prevented.
Passivity will dictate that one sits silently in the face of what they regard as wrong to continue unchallenged. The Opposition did nothing wrong to stand for right whether it was done animately or gently.
The reason Labour did not choose one from their side is because Labour was not interested in stealing from the consolidated funds and and did not convene a sitting of the House. Labour is not even interested in whether there is a Deputy Speaker of not, if you ask me. All Labour is interested in is that the Laws of the land are kept. So, if the government wants to convene a session to borrow money from the consolidated funds then go ahead as long as they do not break the laws of the land when doing so.

I have concluded we St. Lucians are not a critically thinking people. The ordinary citizen pays so much for imported goods. Yet, those who can afford to pay evade taxes. In some instances they are facilitated by the Cabinet of Ministers. The granting of duty-free concession to Dr. Keith Mondesir, a Cabinet Minister, on imported furniture for Tuxedo Villa which was in use at his private home at Bon Tarre, is a case in point. Dr. Kenny Anthony, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament argued that it was wrong and a violation of the Tourism Incentive Act. Instead of we the people rallying with Dr. Kenny Anthony against the violation of laws of this country, we vilified him. He brought the matter to court and proved beyond reasonable doubt that the Cabinet of Ministers acted injudiciously. He also proved that he is no educated derelict in constitutional matters in that instance.
On Tuesday September 13, 2011, Dr. Kenny Anthony and five other opposition parliamentarians walked out of the House of Parliament in protest of what they argued to be a violation of the constitution of this country. A lot has been said, coming from both sides of the political divide regarding the actions of the protesting parliamentarians. Some have even accused Dr. Anthony of arrogance. At this juncture the question is asked, was Dr. Anthony’s action an exhibition of arrogance or a display of confidence in his conviction that the speaker erred? Personally, I will not subscribe to the motion that Dr. Anthony should have stayed in Parliament, when he was confident that the Speaker erred; that Parliament was not duly constituted and therefore had no legitimacy to sit.
It is evident that we are not a people of high moral values base on the above. Our principles are selective. When a known criminal breaks the law we agitate with one voice that the full force of the law is brought to bear upon that individual. However, if is a parliamentarian on the government side, we resort to petty excuse to justify his action. We make it appear that parliamentarians (on the governing side) are beyond and above the reach of the law; or the laws of this country were not meant to be observed and obeyed by them. I can see in the future (near or distance) that defendants in court may endeavour to justify their actions base on precedence set by parliamentarians. A person who robs another, steals from one person, but a person who evades taxes steals from the entire populace. Which is worse?

However, my concurrence with that statement is base on one condition, that it is not a cheap political slingshot. After all, what sense will it make going to school if you do not want an education? A football team that enters a football competition will endeavour to score goals and eventually win the competition. So why in the name of commonsense should Dr. Anthony entered politics to stay in opposition? If your statement is a cheap political slingshot intended to denigrate Dr. Anthony, let me assure you that you have failed miserably to hit the target. The statement has no substance, no merit and devoid of any rationale.

I am certainly no particular fan of the United Workers Party, but given what I read a few minutes earlier from the WIKI LEAKS Report of the UNITED STATES Ambassador, Ms. Mary Kramer on former Prime Minister Kenny Anthony, I am relieved that what I discerned/observed of Kenny Anthony was dead right. He is a farce, pretending to know what he does not known, an educated jackass, now I am learning that the idiot is also arrogant, self-aggrandizement, self-pontification, a real jack-ass that the idiots in the Labour Party continue to force upon the people of St. Lucia.
Two statements caught my attention on the United States Ambassador's Report, which was headlined---

Prime Minister Anthony not interested in acting locally or leading globally, he is into self-congratulatory and cosmetic solutions rather than providing a vision for St. Lucia's future.
I am not surprised at all. Everyone knows that Kenny Anthony was never a top student at School. Next thing we know, he got himself accumulating degrees, but his effectiveness of that knowledge for his nearly ten years in office was ZERO. He was the worst Prime Minister in terms of competence ever observed.

Last Blogger is obviously not residing in St. Lucia or simply was not residing here while the SLP was in power. There are simply too much evidence in St. Lucia to congratulate Kenny Anthony for a great job in creating a more progressive St. Lucia.
We need to direct our attention on the new release about Minister Frederick whose personal and diplomatic US visas were cancelled/revoked by the US embassy. We are hoping to hear from PM Stephenson King and Rufus about the details surrounding this embarrassing case.
I am waiting to see if Min. Frederick like the Jamaican Minister will resign his post or if the PM will have the gonads to ask him to resign. Waiting with bated breath to hear how this will unfold. May the best team wins.
Last blogger; I am living right here in St. Lucia and at full blast at that. The fact is Kenny nor King is any better than the other.
I voted for Kenny Anthony twice, but the cost overruns, which his own Ministers blames him for. The Rochamel, which his own Ministers did not know about. The NCA which his Ministers are telling us he was responsible for. The Grenberg and the Helenites Building Scandal which his Ministers knew nothing about has left not only a sour taste in my mouth but also in my behind. He ain't getting my vote. If I had to cast her last vote to get him to win he would surely lose. I prefer not to vote or to vote for Stephenson King.

It is your democratic right to vote whomever you pleases, but surely, as you so clearly stated, by saying you have lived St Lucia forever, you are aware of King and his band of miscreats and misfits bad deeds? Two wrongs does not make a right.

Recently, the US State Dept. revoked the visas of a Jamaican minister and his wife, he did the honourable thing - resigned. What do we have here in St Lucia. In politics, perceptions are regarded as truth. The mere fact that Richard Frederick is alledged to be dealing with drugs is enough for the PM to distance himself from Richard, more so, now that the Americans have revoked his visitor and diplomatic visas.
It will take days just to review the bad deeds of this UWP government.
They are all the same; UWP and SLP - six of one, half dozen of the other!!
King should simply pack his bags and get going. We do not need such a weak, inept, myopic, fearful, teary eyed PM in government anymore.
