Many people believe that the High courts in Saint Lucia and the Court of Appeal are manned by people with political preferences.
They do not apply the law; they stretch, bend and twist it creating bad precedents and poor jurisprudence just to achieve a desired result. Saint Lucians are not blind.
They know that there is no true separation of powers between the politicians and the judges. Look who is speaker of the House in Saint Lucia, the same person who represents all Labour party litigators whether they have a case or not and that same person has sat as acting judge! He is the same person who is known to take every “weak” judge to lunch as soon as they arrive in Saint Lucia; thereby patronizing them for obvious reasons.
Now they have appointed Mario Michel, a well known Labour Politician to the Court of Appeal. What the hell is going on in this place? No one who has walked a political party line should ever sit as judge, period!
Saint Lucians should reject the CCJ unreservedly!
The High Court and the Court of Appeal have shown that they are incapable of applying only the law; they apply their personal, political and social affiliations instead.
I sit here in the USA and wonder what kind of silly judgments are being churned out of these courts. Saint Lucian lawyers are a bunch of cowards. They accept these silly decisions without a fight! They should stand up against this low quality of jurisprudence and bad precedents and rally together; but then how can they. From what I am hearing, everyone in Saint Lucia has a color, including judges, priests and children: you are either red or yellow! Whatever happens, please no CCJ!

The Comment of August 7, 2012 @ 12:36 PM is a ridiculous one. For that matter, the highest court of the US (the supreme court) are political appointees. When there is a vacancy, the President (democratic, or republican) will seek someone whose ideology closely mimics his.
The attorney general (in the US) who is to be representing the people . . . is a political appointee.
Members of the Privy Council are appointed by the Crown (in this case the queen) "on the advice of the government'. Simply put, these are political appointments.
So Mr sitting in the US, and having garbage for brains, research before you post. I hope this doesn't surprise you . . . There are bright people in this neck of the woods.

In the good ole USA I can guarantee you, Democrats, Republican or Independents will never appoint known rapists, murders and ex cons to their administrations.
In addition our local, applets and Supreme Court judges although not perfect all the time in their decisions, will never stoop so low and accept nickel and dime bribes as the crooked judges do in the St. Lucia judicial system.
You can bet your azz if they do, at some point it will become public, and they will surely face the full strength of our justice system.
More importantly any US citizen, resident and even visitors can report unlawful activity or abusive conduct by any government officials without the fear of reprisal.
My questions for you Mr.smart/bright in the neck of the woods can you do the same in St. Lucia without causing some kind of retribution to your self and your family?

3.David Safavian sentenced to 18 months for lying to congress
4. Susan B. Ralston sentenced for accepting gifts (or borbol)
5. Robert E. Coughlin found guilty for accepting bribes.
6. Claude Allen guilty of theft at Target (come on, at target?).
7. John Colyandro (R) Money laundering
8. Austin Murphy (D-Pennsylvania convicted for voter fraud.
9. Dan Rostenkowski (D-Illinois) convicted for embezzlement.
10. Donald E. "Buz" Lukens (R-Ohio convicted for bribery and was involved in sex scandals.
These are only a few of your US Angelic Administrators. Don't forget Cheney and Bush Jr. The List will be too extensive, so I will stop here.

Don’t spin the facts, how many St. Lucian elected officials, judges, and cops etc that have been prosecuted and serve prison time for corruption while in office?

As we blog back and forth, are you aware a St. Lucian lawyer now a high ranking Minister in the Kenney Administration rip off a $100,000.00 from British citizen and has refused to pay it back although the St. Lucian Bar association and disciplinary group ordered him to do so? In the States I can bet money he would be arrested and prosecuted.
