Well said writer, I am in total agreement since I can relate to the issues stated. But my "Journey" was compounded by bieng a St.lucian living abroad and making the trip home just to renew my passport in 5 days. I was confronted with the issue of the Birth certificate and when I proceeded, I discovered that my there existed discrepancies with the spelling of my name which I was told I have to get rectified at another office.Additionally, the birth certificate is collected at a diffrent location from where the application is made. Now I am in the process of trying to obtain an NIS number. It looks as if I will have to leave st.Lucia without renewing the passport.If ONLY the information wwas made available online. I WISH TO JOIN IN EXPRESSING MY DISGUST AND FRUSTRATION WITH ST.LUCIA - THE PAUCITY OF INFORMATION AND DESDAIN THAT THE POOR AND ILLITERATE PEOPLE ARE TREATED WITH. THE MORE EDUCATED WE BECOME THE MORE DETACHED WE ARE FROM REALITY AND THE MASSES!!!! LORD HAVE MERCY ON THE POOR PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY!!!

Ha Ha Ha I'm on my third American passport get that with no problem. All I need each time is my ID, Social Security, Voters Registration card and expire passport pay for return postage and wa la in one week or so my passport is in my hands without paying 4 A cut. Let the barking begin wooffff.

I hate to admit it but its true. When I applied for my State ID card in the US it only took a few hours. All i needed was my SSN card, bank card as ID and valid proof of address in the form of Government mail or Credit Card statement. This also rings true for opening busines bank accounts; all done in one day. I have questioned this approach and why it cant work here in SLU and the biggest excuse I've heard about is the prevalence of fraud. Are we to wait while our police force plays catch with the crooks before we implement new technologies and keep up with worldwide standards? I have several bank accounts in SLU with my correct name HOWEVER I have not been issued an up to date ID or PASSPORT because of a discrepancy in my birth certificate. Its so weird; things happen in reverse in fair helen.

Thanks for the information on the process of renewing a passport in St. Lucia. I wish I had that information sooner. It would have saved me a lot of trouble while trying to renew my passport from abroad. It's been 8 months and I still don't have the passport.
Had to go through a mistake on the birth certificate,(I was not notified about this until about 3 months later even though I called several times to inquire about the status) rectifying the mistake, waiting for that to get done and then I had to send a new application with the corrected name, only to be told that my application had to go through the whole process again, foreign affairs, immigration etc. There has to be an easier, more efficient, less frustrating way to do this.
It is so easy for people to tell lies and put down their home country to justify their poor existance in foriegn countries. Saint Lucia has foriegn missions in all the countries mentioned, all it takes is a phone call to the mission. Forms are available in all foriegn missions. For the people that live in SLU, they can call the passport office and ask what is required. We spend all day on BB ka parlah zaffa moun. What is wrong in putting your BB to good use and seek information.

Kindly ask your Doctor to increse your medication dosage if you are taking 50mg please tell him it's not working for you I think 150mg would work better. The foreign missions are not the abundance of helpful information as the above blogger believes. I went through the foreign mission to renew my passport and my journey continues 8 months later still with no passport and after doing everything that I was instructed.
I am not one to put down my home country, however other countries (even Caribbean countries) have simpler more efficient ways of dealing with this. Our process is unacceptable and that should be pointed out in an effort to do better.
The writer of the article pointed out several little things that could be done to make the process better even for the people at home. Why these things have not been done is a mystery. Well maybe not such a great mystery, sometimes our people just don't care and will continue to do things that make no sense just because that's how it's always been done.

I totally agree. It took me nearly two years to get my electronic passport since I was overseas and had to have a family member doing all the running around which to me was a waste of time and rather painstaking.
I did not realize that people actually feel they are pigs and want others to know that.
It is such a harmless opportunity of modern technology that people can join in a discussion and exchange learning with each other.
But it is evident OPTICAL @9:30am, and Anonymous @8:52 AM are pigs who choose to participate as pigs, and we must accept their choice.
I applied and got my State ID in the United States in less than one hour. I spent eleven days in Saint Lucia and I did not get an ID card. I guess that makes me a nigger, so what?
So now you know these are the pigs in the Public Service who perpetuate the bad practices because they cannot even understand that they don't know what they don't know.

All the foreign missions do is provide passport forms when you send a self-addressed and stamped envelope. They then send your application down for an exorbitant amount, where it goes through the same process and meets the same obstacles as when you do it from home. I really can't understand why pdf applications can't be available online at the very least.
