It's a shame how this government taking advantage over poor people. After things are so hard they still imposing tax again. Name one project they havee undertaken with the the tax they have collected.I sam Flood will talk about that one of the morning programmes
Anonymous #1 has it right. Why not more taxes on cigarettes and alcohol. I think alcohol and cellphones cause they are the main revenue generaters on the island. Although I understand tings rough but its sad to see the reaction to this. Without income of some sought no project can be done without funding from the outside. We have no natural resources, we are not an industrius nation how do you propose the government generate income?
During the Budget presentation it was mentioned that only about 20% of property owners currently pay their property taxes. It would be interesting to see how many of the current MP's actually pay their property taxes.
One change, I would make for the property tax scheme is have an initial deduction where the first say 300K of house and land value (or some reasonable value) is not liable to property tax and then maybe at 0.5% for the amount over that. That would address the concern from Dr. Anthony about the increase being higher for poorer people.
With all these proposed taxes I hope flambeau can still win the elections. People do not vote for a government that imposes taxes prior to an election. If the Labour Party sells this one good enough maybe they can pull a win. But then again St Lucians do not want Kenny.
Which St Lucians that do not want Kenny? Give us your proof for saying that. Was you at the last SLP event in Vieux Fort? Did you compare the crowd in VF with the one in Dennery for the uwp?
