Well said, Jacque!!

The glossy brochures about SLU, not one would picture or carry an article about our Nobel Laureates, Dame Pearlette Louisy, our culture, the Schools, as a matter of fact, these magazines and brochures features more white people than blacks. Imagine that!! As you rightfully pointed out, all we see are grining young boys and girls in colourful batiks serving whites.

I took offense to the comments of this white tourist. How dare!!

But I honestly do not blame her, as those featured magazines and brochures only advertised whites on the glossy pages - how sad, as a black nation!!

I always enjoy reading, and hearing Mr Compton's comments. This one is does not disappoint, especially his comment on the state of our Castries "city".

The new buildings are horrible, and show no cultural aspect of our heritage. Those "old" houses have been replaced with concrete blocks with no aesthetic design to reflect our heritage, or have been replaced with car parks.

DISGUSTING ...

Even the central Castries representative has NO IDEA of cultural design. Our botanical gardens are in a deplorable state of disrepair, including the "cute" little building which USED TO BE a work of fantastic architectural design. I am sure it can be replicated - IN WOOD.

The other "concrete blocks" in the gardens, housing certain society offices, or whatever - should be demolished, and instead, probably another building be erected, in the French colonial period style [think of old Brazil Street style buildings] to house these society offices, and still keep it in the gardens.

I am always ashamed of how Castries has evolved - not a pretty sight at all. It clearly shows the level of our non-artistic, bureaucratic bo-bo's who have no idea of aesthetics.

Some of our architects do not seem to have any creative ideas when planning and drawing up buildings; private,and/or commercial.

As for the brochures selling St Lucia, I wonder if the Ministry of Tourism and/or the Tourist Board sanction any of these printed materials. Not only are the photos offensive to St Lucians, even the place names, and their location, are misleading. MOST of these brochures are chock full of errors, and pure garbage, including the photographs. Not impressive at all.

How can we effect change,if our citizens are.... all things considered...nonparticipants in the overall development of our beloved country ?

Thanks Jacques! I really enjoyed this article and especially how you ended it. There will never be real good entertainment in these hotels unless they decide to pay good entertainers to work there. They will always be subjected to the Yellow bird and Banana boat songs, which have nothing to do with St. Lucia at all. I have worked the hotel circuit for many years, and in one instance had an 11 year stint with Cunard La Toc, and know it is not what you sing there on any given night, but who the guests are on a given night. I have rehearsed with the band to entertain a particular crowd, and when I get to the hotel, I realize that it was an entire different crowd, and immediately had to switch my repertoire. This does not happen now, but then it will not, as the caliber of entertainers cannot do this type of work. And so my friend, we are left with the Yellow bird and Banana bots songs, show after show, after show.

St. Lucia is populated by morons! The Nobel prize winners would never have made it, if they had remained there.

Our so-called leaders reflect the 'commonsense' approach to everything on the island. This is so much so that people extol the fact that their PM does not have CXCs and is a PM. The young people argue that an excon is the most suitable person in the cabinet today to be PM. Complete idiots like Jukebois are their spokespersons.

They ghettos of Castries sent real drug baron to parliament to see after their economic interest.

Meanwhile God in his mercy has poured on some more happiness in the form of a hurricane.

The people of this island are cursed. They need prayer.

When you have a drug culture with drug barons in the cabinet, you have to be part of the theatre. You can have a little cameo like the PM in his office the other day. He almost got killed.

Mr. Compton

I am in awe of your piece.

I couldn't have said it better.

The frustrating thing is that, all Expats and the world sees all of the problems and everything that is wrong with St Lucia. Except, the government and the people haven’t a clue what MUST be done.

Mother Helen needs much help in just about everything.

Some days I am ready to destroy "Mother Helen" for what some of her citizens and certain government agencies did to my family and me.

Other days as I read your beautiful and honest piece I just want to help save her from complete annihilation, which is what I will likely do while still finding justice by any legal means necessary for her crimes against me.

I will make contact with you as your literary mind will be an asset as I try to gather as many Expats and interested locals as possible to form a non-political coalition to address numerous concerns regarding "Mother Helen"

And believe me, we will not be influenced whatsoever by anyone. Our objective will be to use our God-given St Lucian rights to save “the land that gave us birth”
