This Comptroller ain't ready yet. Why didn't he pursue the case against Frederick, started by his predecessor?

Folks this is what happens when you put square pegs in round holes. Just like we have a JOKEY Acting Prime Minister, we also have a JOKEY Comptroller. This Comptroller is illegitimate, just as our Acting Prime Minister is. Its the same Comptroller who did not have the balls to pursue the tax evasion case against Minister Richard Frederick and Minister Keith Mondesir. You see folks he was planted as Comptroller when the real Comptroller Terrence Leonard was victimized by this dirty, corrupt, Taiwanese UWP government. He says that when a Customs Officer is suspended, as in Joel Philgence's case, all uniforms are seized by the Customs Department, yet he admits that 2 shirts and 2 pants were left with Philgence. See what a JOKEY Comptroller he is? A GORGON Comptroller like Leonard, who arrested Minister Richard Frederick for tax evasion investigations would not have allowed Philgence to keep his uniforms. Mr St. HELENE, JOKEY Comptroller, is therefore guilty of professional incompetence and negligence, as well as indirect facilitation of the criminal activities of former Customs Officer Joel Philgence. DONNA BAPTISTE.

Give you more powers to vitimize those you dont like. Half of the cases that goes towards the public service are thrown out. Why? because you guys are hasty to set up persons yall deem a threat to yall positions. I think it would be better if you cleanse your administration of those crooked hooks mr sthelen and you know who they are. One his wife has a brokerage company and is gaining preferential treatment over other brokers. Also a number of your admin staff are in the pockets of some companies in stlucia and i hope when the time comes and these evidence are forwarded to the dpp that all those crooks are sent to prison to rot.

I hate it when a serious issue is on the table and party moles get in and change the value of its substance. I have been honoured to work closely with the Customs Department and although the occupiers of the office of the Comptroller lately have become political pawns, we must support Mr St Helene's reality check that this evil cannot continue. To say the Comptroller (not the political preys)should have no say in selecting staff to uplift the Department's performance standards like other Directors and Managers of other less significant organisations is nonsensical. We must rethink the garbage against Mr St Helene's wisdom and remove politics from mainstream public service on the whole. Whichever PM or political group which champions this depolitisation of the public service will be doing the country an honourable good. Look at the results of the political puppetry of the Ministry of the Public Service (2 years is much too long to handle a case like that of Mr Philgence and others). The results are inadequate staffing, square pegs in round holes, weaker support at the top for the Comptroller (currently balls and expertise are not the essential criteria but favour with the political system and 'nenen or pawen') and most serious of all - a serious undercollection of revenue (forget the targets - a target can be set histories or perceived performance capability. Please, let us not jump at Mr St Helene's throat but support the idea for a mechanism (non-political) to see a local reform agenda designed to redirect this formerly very proud institution away from the clutches of political interferance and influence to the mordern institution it is now persuing at great expense to the tax payer. A department possessed of true professionalism and purpose with a central interest in serving the public fairly and respectfully to collect all the country's revenue to support Government's development programmes (not for personal reward). Frank talk and honest analysis is critical.

Meow Meow, good point and good attitude. But, do not forget that these problems of incompetence at the Customs Department are PART AND PARCEL of the generalised government corruption and lawlessness, and it ALL started with the damn criminals, Minister Richard Frederick and Minister Keith Mondesir, who were alleged to have been involved in tax evasion activities, and are yet to face the courts. In Mondesir's case he actually sat with the Customs officers and PAID UP, to cover the story. Why must Meow Meow face the courts for her crimes and Richard and Mondesir just flaunt their wares in peoples faces? That's the point Meow Meow!!! DONNA BAPTISTE.

Meow meow are you a party hack too? The current comptroller is a hack of the uwp so how will he be able to pursue the case against richard federick left over by his predecessor?

Meow, Meow said...

Anonymous, I am not a party hack truely, there is nothing attractive for me about our current political player ( I would be moved by some degree of passion behind a vision for St Lucia if there was that) - and I am quite aware of Mr St Helene's political affiliations and that of the former Comptroller - no difference, even though he is serving under the UWP (hope you knew that). Anyway the Frederick case is beyond the Comptroller (hope you know that too). The unfortunate dilema of the Department with respect to Mr Frederick is one of the issues we need to be objective about when we look at the future relationship between the Politics, the Customs Department and the Laws and Revenueof our beloved St Lucia. Hope you get my Meow.

Anonymous I am glad you can see that I am against anyone who defrauds our people and the country's taxes. Please don't put your hands in fire for anyone - stand up for the truth, but you will only know it when it comes to light (it hardly ever does). Donna my friend, you can rest assured that we all want justice, but don't expect justice from the unjust. You will agree that both colour schemes have their share of sins against the state. Time alone will tell whether Richard will ever face the courts even if the colours change in the house. But lets us not stretch the past and concentrate what it is we would like to see in the future. Honest and committed public service or continue playing politics only which is always unfair to one color or the other as well as others who honestly would rather not mix their duty with their politics. Best wishes to good government for a change - the people must stop the cheap politics so that we can get the work done for all of us irrespective of ...... Meow, Meow.

Good attitude Meow, but I believe that it is an error to speak of Richard Frederick's case being "beyond" the Comptroller as a result of the political circumstances. Herman St. HELENE is a good man. My beef is not personal. But there are things that good men and women must stand for, regardless of political circumstances. For one thing the American FBI still have an interest in Richard, for the alleged tax evasion AND OTHER matters, and all progress in these issues have died under Mr. St. Helene. And to anonymous above you can rest assured that the people will demand an explanation from St. Helen for his blatant inaction on certain matters, but the Labour Party that I know will not tackle the Comptroller just because some people may perceive him to be Flambeau. I do not believe that a new SLP administration will be into such cheap, vindictive politics. SLP has never been into cheap politics. DONNA BAPTISTE.

If this Comptroller is an operative of the UWP, then he must REALLY know how to operate, because he was once an operative of the SLP and a strong ally of PJ Pierre. Besides I don't think this COmptroller was already appointed when this offer was suspended. Anyway that is not the issue here. The Comptroller is right is call for more powers to discipline, etc. It is outrageous that the case against this officer has not been dealt with by the Public Service Commission after 2 years and that this man has been earning a salary on teh backs of taxpayers all this time. The PSC has been notorious for dragging its feet in such cases.
