I do not believe that the Speaker consulted with the A.G. because Doddy gets things done. By the HOOK or by the CROOK he would have found a more convenient solution. He would have taken it to Cabinet, where conveniently, there are no Hooks!

I listened attentively at the speaker's attempt to justify her actions. One of her defenses was that she consulted with regional and other commonwealth luminaries on the matter. What a crock! If I were in a position where I was unsure about what to do with regard to a particular matter concerning my job, I would seek the guidance of my predecessor. She had Matthew Roberts and a number of ex deputy speakers. I would then, if not satisfied, consult with an expert in the field. If David Cox, is competent enough to head constitutional reform in St Lucia why wasn't he consulted as the authority on this matter? Could it be because the speaker was searching for a particular kind of advice?
Secondly, I think the speaker (deliberately?) confused 'convenient' with 'expedient'. Convenient means 'as the time, place, situation etc allows'. There was time, and we had a situation where all members of parliament were present in the House (place).In which case, a deputy speaker could and should have been selected.
Expedient means at a time, place, situation etc that is advantageous to one person or group! And we know which group was advantaged by the speaker's decision.
Sadly, St Lucia's constitution and St Lucia itself were the most disadvantaged at the end.

Wikileaks on Kenny Anthony. This is what the US Embassy relayed to the American State Dept about that failure Kenny Anthony who raised our National Debt to $1.6 billion and our interest payments from $16 million a year to $65 million a year. That is why St. Lucia now has to borrow so much to keep afloat. St. Lucia has had to borrow an additional $250 million in the last 5 years to pay just the INTEREST on Kenny incurred debt on TOP of the $200 million to pay for Rochamel, NCA and road cost overuns.

The SLP Administration of 1997-2006 has cost St. Lucia $450 million in the past 5 years (2007 -2011) because of the interest and principle payments on debt incurred due to their mismanagement inclusive of rochamel, road cost overruns, NCA and a host of other issues.
How come no one is asking for Mario Michel to come back? It is clear from his positioning that Phillip Pierre is incapable of managing himself out of a paper bag so the Labour Party needs help.
