These idle young men with nothing better to do but to go about exterminating each other in an answer to their grudges, simply need to get more gainfully occupied. We all know that chronic unemployment is one of the main reasons for such happenings. So perhaps the powers that be, instead of following their predecessors and using Taiwan money to fill up potholes and build sports complexes should use that money to build factories and create jobs for these young men. Perhaps they could ask the Taiwanese to build a factory and teach these young men to assemble electronic gadgets for the various distribution companies worldwide. Such a venture might just be a good income generating venture and would address the magnitude of unemployment resulting in less "mischief-making time" for young men. Also, maybe crown lands which are arable can be allotted to some young men tax free so they can go into the business of agriculture. Nothing is more satisfying than knowing one has a place to work where one can earn one's living. Saint Lucia is rapidly becoming the devil's playground because there is way too much idleness. Well somebody has got to think of something before it is too late. There is way too much murder and death in such a small island where people are supposed to be so close knitted. This youth on youth violence has got to be curtailed before it is too late. Summary police killings and putting them in jail does not work, pronouncements from our mealy mouthed politicians are futile so somebody has got to think seriously about a long term solution to this problem NOW!
